The chrome wheels are about 5-6 years old, they have only been washed over the years and look very bad, pitted, dirty, etc....someone told me to use 50/50 of water /muratic acid. Are there any products that will help with this?

#0000 steel wool and a wheel cleaner of your choice. Should bring a lot of the shine back.

For brake dust type cleaning a good acid- based Chrome Wheel cleaner will dissolve and remove the brake-dust build-up.

For stubborn road grime you want a detergent type cleaner or soap.

As for pitting, once the chrome coating has been compromised, that is it's missing and the underlying steel is exposed and rusting then that type of damage is pretty much un-fixable.

Making what's left of the chrome coating look shiny again can be done with any metal polish.

Be careful anytime you're working with acids... wear proper safety glasses and skin protection.

:)

I would try some Wenol (Red) Metal Polish with #0000 Steel Wool once the wheels have been cleaned. If the pitting is really bad I would get the wheels sand blasted and rechromed.

thanks everyone, will go to town on them and do the best we can, thanks Scott "scrib13"
