I have been an avid reader of this site and have purchased many of the suggested products with great results. I just purchased a 3 year old Bentley Continental Flying Spur which is in like new condition. The car is white and has no noticeable scratches or swirl marks. Also, my dad just purchased a Metallic Black Audi A8L. My question is what is the best protection suggested?

I have Klasse AIO and Sealant and was going to top that with Pinnacle SV wax. I was going to use this combination on both cars, but then i started reading about all these nano sealants and the Opt-Coat type coatings and wondered which is the best to use? Also, would a drive thru car wash with soft touch cotton/foam strips be ok to use between details, especially on black car?

Final question is about my rims, they are painted black with white lips, what's the best way to protect them? I saw a product called WOLF Rim Guard that looks good, and I have also seen people use opticoat. Any suggestions?

Did I post this in the wrong section? I wanted to do the detailing this weekend, so please someone give me some input?

I am most certainly not the guy who should be answering your questions.. But maybe my answers will prompt others, who have some actual experience, to chime in.

The Klasse options you already have are outstanding, so you would be doing yourself no disservice by using them.

Opti-coat is a permanent coating as opposed to a sealant, which is going to have a different look, feel and longevity. There are numerous threads available regarding these and as I have no experience with them I won't comment further.

Rims: if they are painted then you should treat them like paint.

Hey man,

Eh, sometimes it takes a few posts for people get to know you and familiar with your name.

Make sure you are reading threads and posting questions. I am sure you read threads where you saw great results, product reviews, and car-wash topics. Post questions in there and I am sure you will get responses there as well.

As to your questions, it is always good to start on a clean and contaminant free surface. Even if the vehicle looks nice to the naked eye, doing the "baggie test" (search it if not know) will give you an idea of the paint condition.

Wash, clay or speedy prep towel and check paint.

Some like to rewash after clay or do an IPA wipe down to rid of all oils. Products for this may be CarPro Eraser or just IPA at 70%.

If it needs no correction go for a quality coating like Opti-Coat 2.0 for long term protection.

Some members here love AIOs like Klasse and DG 501. Put on your favorite LSP and you are set to go.

For car wash issues:

-Stick with only touchless. I feel most do not have abrasive chemicals that will strip LSP, but you could do your own test by marking a section on a horizontal surface that has protection and check the sheeting.

-Many members use the touchless wands with the water only and no soap. Bringing your own buckets with warm water for a RW and QD or Wax/Sealant spray is a great option as well.

With suckh high quality vehicles I would question why you would want to use a $10 car wash to handle cleaning your paint with the sketchiness of their brushes and processes.

For painted rims I believe a designated wheel wax or sealant would be perfectly fine. Someone else may chime in, but I think even using a sealant one would use on the car paint would be okay on paint wheels.

GTechniq has quality coatings for different surfaces you may want to check into as well.

Happy detailing!

I would most definitely suggest Opti Coat for both vehicles.

I own a Audi a4 metalic black, I useWolfgang swrill remover, then I use Wolfgang paint sealant and top it off with fusion wax, the color is amazing, looks like it has been dipped in oil.

Speaking only based on what I've read from others who have detailed them, Bentleys have very soft paint, in which case, a coating like opti-coat or similar would be your best bet to add a more scratch resistant layer and to make maintaining the finish easier - do a little more digging on your paint code or a test spot to determine if your paint is truely soft.

Generally speaking Audi uses very hard paint. Scratching and marring issues aren't as much of a concern as with the Bentley, but with a black car you will see every defect.

Some more information about the car usage would also help determine what's best for you.

Thanks for answers so far. I have been reading endlessly and have found a lot of great info.

I was worried bout running out of time to find answer so I posted another copy of this thread in another section that had a lot more people viewing. I left a link in that thread to this one so that all info is in this one thread.

Just from what I read on board and in answers in this thread, I'm about to pull trigger on Opti-Coat, but then when looking at the other products sold here, I really liked what a read about GTechniq Ultra Durable Hybrid coatings.

Which is better? Opti-Coat vs. GTechniq EXO U D Hybrid Coating?

GTechniq EXO Ultra Durable Hybrid Coating, paint coating, glass coating

Seems Hybrid Coating goes on easier and has better shine and last just as long?

Black car is new, washed once and doesn't have any noticeable imperfections. I was thinking using Klasse AIO to clean any imperfections off and then use IPA or GTechniq Panel Prep to remove any of the Klasse before applying Coating, or will Klasse bond with surface and not allow good bonding with coating even if removed with panel prep?

The White car came detailed and looking really close in sun, I notice just a handful of minimal scratches. Was thinking of using pinnacle clay then Klasse AIO and then IPA after? If polishing is necessary, I have a porter cable 7424 with all color CCS pads and Wolfgang total swirl remove and finishing glaze. What color pad and product do I use for almost no repair needed or will Coating fill in what minimal scratches are there?
