Hello Autogeek and Mike,

My father owns a 2013 Boss 302 which has matte, reflective stripes on the hood/front bumper and along the sides of the car. He and I got bitten by both the detailing and the track bugs within the past year, so we're looking at rapidly becoming poor men. We plan on taking the car down to Sebring International Raceway in December, but before we do that we would like to put a ceramic coating on the paint and some sort of protection onto the stripes.

So my question is: What would be the best product to put the stripes that wouldn't ruin the matte and reflective properties of the stripes?

Photos of the stripes:

I'll see if I can dig up a photo showing off the reflective properties of the stripes. Normally the reflective properties only show up at night or near dusk.

Stripes that are Matte...but also have
reflective properties: now that’s some-
thing I’ve yet to see.

If you are looking for a coating to use on the matte vinyl stripes then I will recommend Cquartz Skin.

Here is the review I have on it

Review - CarPro Skin PPF & Vinyl Wrap Coating

Here is the car I used it on as well.

2017 Dodge Charger Daytona 392

With regards to a paint coating. I would recommend Cquartz UK 3.0 topped with Gliss.

Thanks for the tip and that previous post; you did a pretty awesome job for a weekend project. I was definitely planning on using Cquartz 3.0 UK with Gliss as a topcoat. Used it on my wife's daily driver ('16 Lexus CT200h with Ultra White paint) and it turned out great so I am really looking forward to see how it does on a much more brightly colored car.

Is that matte graphic on the Charger reflective?

The paternal unit went out and got a photo of it last night. The photo below captures the reflective properties fairly decently. Like I said before though, it really comes into play around dusk and at night. Of course, at dusk or at night, its tough to get good lighting for the photos.

•Thanks for the photo. :xyxthumbs:

•As I said earlier:
-I’ve never really heard of reflective matte
stripes before; glad to have had the oppor-
tunity to learn of this phenomenon: Yep...
This particular Science is definitely not settled!

-Even found this example:

Matte graphics on the roof, hood and rear. The rear spoiler is matte paint. Skin will leave the appearance richer with no added gloss. It won’t mask the properties of the graphic.
