Ok guys - the niece is getting an Edge - maybe three or four years old, and it needs to be heavily brought back from swirl and halo land. It's that Ford Black that has like a mica style flake in it...

I'm sure it's been said before and my lousy search techniques in this forum have failed me - what's the best technique/product workflow for this? Paint is is fairly good shape other than the halos...

Thanks again and good to see y'all !

You should look into the Wolfgang line up, that would be my recommendation to start with. Your also going to need a dual action polisher depending on your budget will determine which one. 3 orange lake country pads and 3 white lake country pads. This should help you some. Short and sweet lol.

I've got the GG 6 inch, which I like a lot.

I look into the Wolfgang line and I have needed a reason to buy some new pads :)

Sounds like a plan so far...

Thanks !

Search the forum for "Tuxedo Black", which is the actual name for that color. There are several threads from guys doing work on their Tuxedo Black vehicles!

I'd first wash it well then clay it.
Then compound the entire car, you can buy an OTC product like Meg's Ultimate Compound followed by Meg's Ultimate polish.

If you want the best, well IMO anyway the Wolfgang Über Compound then follow that with Meg's 205.
You'll get great results with either but the WG would give you the best results.
Start with the orange pad and see what it does for you, always start with the least aggressive.
Use a white pad when you polish.
You'll want to protect it after compounding, find a sealant that you know will work for you.
I find the Wolfgang Glossy Paint Sealant gives you the best shine with long lasting protection.
If you want to stay within budget buy a bottle of Griot's Paint Sealant.

Just keep in mind that the prep work is very important in getting flawless results.

My plan was to clay first and then go for defect removal..and I like the idea of sealing with Giriots. The products I have used from them seem to do quite well so far but I know black paint is another world entirely, hence my request for help ! thanks guys..

Griot's is a great sealant , it may not be the most talked about sealant but IMO its really good, gives a great shine and last for a few months.
I took it one step further and bought the WG Glossy Paint Sealant.
You can't beat the price from Griot's Sealant for what it offers you:dblthumb2:
