best wax recommended for lacquer kandy paint?

been working on the paint of a 79 trans am that been painted around 1994 using lacquer paint, the color is Kandy Brandywine shot over a Firemist red. Been claying it and did some detailing to it, this coming weekend would like to get more into the buffing and polishing this time. Just looking for what wax or sealant to use to finish off the job?
 
since this is a special type of a car it should get a special type of wax!

im not much of a wax user cuz my car is protected with Cquartz and i use reload every month or so

and the only high end wax i used is meguiars gold class paste wax (i dont know if i can call it high end or not)

and even that this wax is cheap in price its not cheap in performance and gloss

if u want to get the best out of wax use very little but use with dual action polisher with waxing or finishing pad and you'll get nice results

however
my friend tried (blackfire midnight sun carnuba wax) and his car is pretty much is at its top of its shine

but there is something to bear in mind:
sealant: protection
wax: gloss
paint coating: IMO gloss and long protection

After you get all the polishing done, are you planning on waxing this paint often to keep that "just waxed look"?

The reason I ask is because single stage paints tend not to retain their high gloss appearance like a clear coat finish unless they are regularly maintained. By regularly maintained, I mean applying "something" to them as often as you so feel inclined...

I'd recommend a finishing wax, that is a wax that uses Carnauba but doesn't have any cleaners or cleaning ability.

I'd also recommend a wipe on, wipe-off wax, this makes it f-a-s-t to quickly apply a fresh coat of wax, wipe it off and move on...

I'd definitely rub the paint down with some #7 after all the machine polishing steps are over and then top with whatever you decide...

In the past few years I've applied a very wide variety of waxes, sealants and coatings to a very wide spectrum of cars and more important "car owners".

Here's what I've confirmed...

The simpler the approach, the more likely the person that owns the car will use the product and stay on top of maintaining the finish.

The winner for that category would be a non-cleaning, wipe-on, wipe-off Carnauba wax. Most Carnauba waxes are actually "blended" or hybrid products, meaning the give you the benefits of both Carnauba wax but also synthetic ingredients for either shine, durability, gloss or protection...


Just what I've seen...

thank you for all the help guys, today plan on just washing and claying , the issues i need to address first before i worry bout the wax is the water spots that formed from the air conditioner duct above it while it sat in garage for 13 yrs, it was covered up in a good car cover i guess just seeped through. also there are some fine and some deep scratch that i need to address also. I guess if i get her out today i take photos and post them up and start a detail log on it, the interior is perfect just the paint needs some TlC.
the photos in the link was tooken last yr, the day after it was uncovered from the pile of stuff that accumulated over the yrs.

thanks mike for posting the quick link to the cars you have worked on, i seen the same issues on some of cars as i have on the T/A.

Cquartz is a coating....

For your single stage candy paint job... I'd stick with a premium quality wipe-on, wipe-off wax...

Look at Max Wax, or Signature Series II, or Pinnacle Souveran...

Easy to apply. Easy to wipe off. Easy to use often to give that paint,


The just waxed look...

Single stage is a different animal than basecoat/clearcoat....

That will work... you need to let this product dry before removing and instructions state to let it dry from 30 to 45 minutes.


I've been purposefully recommending paste waxes that don't have to dry for a number of reasons, one is because it makes the waxing process very fast and the products I've recommended give paint like this what everyone wants out of paint like this and that is...

A deep wet shine...

Excellent. Good to know. Is it bad if the sealant only sits on the lacquer for 5-10 mins? Does it depend on temperature?

today i plan on washing the car and doing some claying, later this week i plan on putting on mequires #7 again, but i been reading about the nanoskin autoscrub, is it safe to use on the clear coat after using the clay? im sure it is i just want to be sure, and also is the nanoskin autoscrub safe on the clearcoat laquer? just didnt want to do something to strip it off. the weather past few days and work havent given me chance to take photos, hoping today i could but its suppose to be cloudy all day here.

Yes. Most tools used to mechanically decontaminate clay can potentially leave some marring behind. Depends upon the paint, the technique, amount of lube and aggressiveness of the tool being used. im sure it is i just want to be sure,

My strong recommendation is anytime you plan on doing ANY type of decontamination, be it with clay, decontaminating towels, sponges or pads, is to also plan on doing at least ONE machine polishing step.

i will definitely will if the weather permits, was trying to yesterday and today after work, but looks like mother nature isnt wanting me to get that chance, hope tomorrow or weds can get to it. its pouring down here in missouri now, thanks for the info on the nanoskin,n the claying i got the mothers clay bar kit, is there any other type of clay bars recommended?

Detailing clay all works pretty much the same, the key difference is how non-aggressive or aggressive the clay formula is and this is based upon the amount and type of abrasives used in the clay.

A less aggressive clay bar will still get the job done but it will take more strokes.

My personal preference is an ultra fine grade like the Pinnacle Ultra Poly Clay.

The Pinnacle Ultra Poly Clay is very elastic and this makes it very easy to knead.
