So I've decided to give a coating a try. This will be the first time I've applied a coating. I've done a good amount of research but still have a few questions about prepping the paint. First off i plan to use wolfs Nano Hard body coating, with other coatings i see that there are certain polishes you need to use before applying the coating. If im doing light polishing m205 on a white pad before applying the coating then wipe with ipa do i need to use a paint cleaner or prep polish after the 205? I want the coating to be applied correctly so it will last and i can give it a quality review. Any help would be great I plan on placing my order tonight. thanks in advance

I would not put my trust in using an IPA wipe down. Get some Carpro eraser or DP coating prep polish.

Wash-ironx -clay-M205-eraser-coating.

I would strongly recommend following the manufacturers directions, which in this case I believe means using their polishes prior.

You can sit on this forum and get 20 opinions of the best way to prep and remove "polishing oils", but the only person with real data is Wolfs, so why not go with their recommendation?

I don't have ironx but i do have wolfs deironizer. Now lets say i do another vehicle that im doing no polishing on. would it be ok to wash-ironx-clay-eraser-coating? or would it best to use DP coating prep? Im planning to go coating prep but i just see the Dp coating prep adding more work.

Wolf’s Chemicals Hard Body Nano Coating

would you look at that no recommendations. have you ever found another use for a detailing product? found a better method of use? i bet you have thats why i asked. Now take your shenanigans elsewhere Im the MAN

If you are eliminating the polishing step you may want to go with DP coating prep polish instead of eraser to deep clean the paint a bit better.

Thanks for the help silverfox. Picking up Dp coating prep and CarPro eraser just to be safe.

Not sure if Gtechniq Panel Wipe has something special to assist with C1 and EXO bonding, but this stuff worked really well to remove remaining polish residues on my car that were present after a Carpro Eraser wipe.

what im taking from this is in your experience with Carpro eraser is that it left polish residues behind? If thats the case would you say its possible you didn't use enough eraser? not trying to slander your technique just curious if other factors could have been in play or if it could actually be a not so great formula

The Gtechniq coating prep stuff is excellent. Both the panel wipe and polish (P2). Panel Wipe a little sprayed on a microfiber cloth goes a very long way. It can be used for any coating prep, same with the Detailers Pro Coating Prep, they all get to a clean paint surface which is what all coatings want for bonding. While after using the polishes you could technically stop after wiping off since they do not contain fillers (polishing oils) but I would still do a quick panel wipe. My2cents - Wash, Nanoskin Autoscrub, polish, then quick panel wipe and your ready to coat.

Womp-

Always possible, but I tend to be more on the abundant side of things. I am fairly new, so technique is a growing thing for me. But, I applied the Eraser pretty generously.

It's not like Panel Wipe removed layers and globs of stuff that Eraser didn't remove, but it got some of the stuff off that Eraser did not.

It's also possible that another run of Eraser would have done the trick too. However, I used Panel Wipe as a last step because that's what Gtechniq recommends before C1.

Here are the directions smart ass:

For best results, clean the surface with Wolf's Shine & Seal nano polish or some IPA (30% mix). With a clean cotton pad or foam applicator, evenly apply a thin layer of product to the surface with overlapping motions. Allow to dry for 15 minutes and remove residue with a cleaner microfibre towel. To ensure 100% coverage and for added protection and shine, a second layer is recommended and after a minimum of 3 hours curing time.
Suggested temperature of application is +12 degrees C but do not apply to a hot surface or in direct sunlight!

from Wolfs' website. Does that answer your question?
