Best way to protect aftermarket chrome wheels

I got bored with the 22x10 Fuel Maverick wheels on my 23 High Country so I'm putting new wheels on it along with new rubber. 22x10 RBP Patriots. Same Michelin Defender 305 45 22 tires.
I've always just used spray wax and that works ok but I thought I would see what you guys use.View attachment 77219

Have you tried a spray on, hose off product like WetCoat, Hydro2, 303 Touchless or Pure:est equivalent

I've never had great luck sealing something high polished optically and it being the same finish afterwards

Haven't used a spray seal but a high solids coating
Not chrome, but with high polished aluminum...after coating them, while it wasn't cloudy, it was like 2 notches down from where the high polished look super -brilliant- before the coating.
 
Aren't there some polishes that leave a bit of a layer of protection??? I think products like Autosol even claim a layer of protection.
Polish Angel has their polish, Palladium, but also they have Supersport for rims.

Are wheels actually chrome plated or PVD finished?

Coat ‘em and the occasional hit with PA Supersport.

FWIW barrels not chromed on OEM wheels but maybe clearcoated?

Griot garage has a polish in there ceramic line that leaves protection. Got it for chrome bumpers but haven’t used it.

I am using this and SuperSport on all my chrome.

Are you positive about that? I couldn't find anything online for those wheels that confirm they are old school PLATED chrome.

Seeing as in todays age, chrome plating is more expensive, more environmentally unfriendly, adds more weight, and is less durable than the physical vapor deposition (PVD) coatings that everyone is using today, I just can't see how any wheel manufacturer would choose this method.

Because if its PVD, then you can use whatever wax, sealant or paint coating you want. Treat the surface like you would the vehicle. It doesn't need a specialized product.

I’ve always thought that PVD was inferior to traditional real chrome plating. They even sell specific PVD Wheel Cleaners and I’ve always been of the impression it’s because they’re somewhat delicate whereas chrome can take just about whatever beating you can give it chemical wise.

The only thing that can really harm chrome is a wire brush & moisture.

I’ve been running chrome wheels for most of the past 20+ years and I’ve never found anything protection wise that made a lick of difference. Spray & rinse products do absolutely nothing to prevent wheels from eventually getting dirty and the many metal sealants I’ve tried are all duds too. At the end of the day you’ll still wind up needing to clean your chrome wheels the same way you always do.

The best thing you can do is buy brake pads that don’t dust too much which these days are pretty common. Keep em clean and dry.
