Looks like just in time for SEMA Rupes has incorporated the advancements from the large iBrids (composite gears, new thin backing plate, etc.) into the corded polishers, calling them the Mark V (LHR).

Personally if I was going to go for one of these I would pony up the couple hundred dollars more for the cordless version kit (they still don't seem to have the tool/charger/batteries option without the pads and polishes)

They released the cordless STD kits a few months ago, $650/$675 for the 15/21 respectively. Just the tool, charger & 2 batteries.

Guys in the shop who have been using the V many hours a day say the reduced vibration/noise is a very nice benefit; when I picked one up for just a moment & turned it on for a little bit it didn’t seem a huge difference but was noticeable. Slightly lower profile was nice.

Well, I don't own any Rupes, let alone any long-throw polishers, but if I was going to buy a Rupes, I'd definitely put up another $125 to get the cordless. Thanks for posting about the pared-down kits, where I was looking they only showed the full kits.

Any idea why they are calling it Mark V and not Mark IV?

Another ‘upgrade’ with the Mark V is the 5-year warranty vs previous 1-year.

Unless you just like the latest & greatest in Rupes tools or the thinner (but still not free spinning) backing plate appeals to you the Mark III to Mark V changes probably not mind-bending for an occasional user.

I never upgraded to Mark III from my Mark II so if I still needed a polisher for home use, the jump from II to V might be ‘worth it’ as the III had some nice features over the II; II + III = V -> polisher math?

Cords never really bothered me so the added $$ for cordless is lost on me.

Since I previously mentioned I don't have any long throws, I was tempted when the cordless first came out, but then Anthony at TRC did a video and stalled the pad...and I said nah, I'll just stick with my Flex.

Cords never bothered me, either...except that everything today is cordless, lights, drills, it's not that cords ever bothered me...it's just when you get used to not have to worry about finding a place to plug stuff in, getting snagged on wires, having to wipe down and coil up the cord after (if you're me), you just want to buy a cordless when you get something new. It's not like I'm tossing my corded polishers and replacing them with cordless.

Apparently the number 4 is considered bad luck in Italy, so they bypassed it and went to IV. Considering the trouble they had with early versions of the new battery powered HLR machines, I guess they didn't want to chance it.

Rupes says no…new plates for cordless & Mark V only.

But people do like to tinker so…

Just get some Flex Tape and “Slap it on”! Lol.

Can the low profile backing plates be used on other polishers? I seen them for sale a few days ago, sold seperately from the machine.

Just for giggles, tried fitting a new plate to an older machine…not gonna work. New plate doesn’t have the clearance/rise in the center to clear shroud & and at a glance looks like the depression/keyway where the bolt goes is slightly different as well.
