From my article list,

Bird Droppings

How long does it take for a bird dropping to etch paint?

How to safely remove a dried bird dropping

Two Types of Bird Dropping Etchings

From the above, this one shows two types, which type do you have?

Two Types of Bird Dropping Etchings
  • Type I Bird Dropping - Topical Stain Etching
  • Type II Bird Dropping - Fractured/Wrinkled Etching

There are two common types of damage associated with bird dropping etchings;

Type I Bird Dropping - Topical Stain Etching
Type I Topical Stain Etchings are usually only topical, that is shallow enough that they can be completely removed or at least greatly improved to the point where they are difficult to see.

This type of etching can be removed using a clear coat safe compound or polish by hand or machine. Hand removal is almost always more efficient as you can exert more pressure to a small area and thus keep your work area isolated to just the affected area. By machine you can use a Spot Repair System, again to keep the work area isolated to just the affected area.

Type II Bird Dropping - Fractured/Wrinkled Etching
Type II Wrinkled Etchings are usually too deep to fix safely. The problem is the paint fractures, (splits apart in tiny lines,), or wrinkles as the paint swells and bunches together. In both instances, the resulting defect is throughout the clear layer of paint and not topical. Thus trying to remove it will require removing so much clear paint that you will likely expose the basecoat, or colored layer of paint which has a dull appearance. For this reason it's not safe to try to remove a Type II Bird Dropping Wrinkled or Fractured Etching.

if i use 105 compound can i follow up with my pinacle polish and souveran paste wax or do\should i follow up with 205 instead?

Hello,

I have a Type I Topical Stain Etching on my hood. Bird pooped on the car yesterday afternoon and I washed the whole car yesterday evening. I noticed the etching after washing.

I applied Step 1 of Mother's 3 step system about 3 times to the affected area last night. Then I followed up with Step 2 and 3. It was becoming dark last night and I though I got rid of the etching but when I looked at it today, from a certain angle, I can still see it. It's not as noticeable as it was yesterday, but still there.

What should I do? Should I apply Step 1 of Mother's a few more time and top with a wax? Or should I just get the Meguiars Ultimate Compound.

I'm doing all this by hand. Please help.

It worked! I attached a before and after picture (the second picture looks like the area is smudged; however, it's just the way the clouds are reflecting). I applied Meguiars Ultimate Compound about 5-6 times and put a coat of wax over.

Thank you for your help, Mike!
