Have a family member who just picked up a black ATS. It was a salesman demo which i think they ran through the dealer wash rack many times. The paint is covered in RIDS. I tried Megs 105 with LC orange pad on pc7424. I was wondering if a wool pad would be the better way to go. The 105 did a good job but in the right light scratches are still visible. Thanks

RID's can be tough with a Porter Cable 7424

I have the older Non-XP version of the 7424 and have had success finding the "Sweet Spot" by applying downward pressure until the backing plate stops spinning and then taking a little off until it starts to spin again.

Mark your backing plate with a Magic Marker.

Using smaller pads will also help.

If you're making progress just keep working it. Wools gonna leave faint marks as well. Also, think about your family member. Do they want it 100% defect free? Or will 95% make them happy and the extra 5 Just be wasted time?

Thanks for the replies, it does look much better. I just wondered if i missed something. i used M105, then polish, and sealant. I also added a little MEG NXT 2.0 on top, not sure if that was overkill. I was trying things out. I tried some uber compound sample that i had, the 105 was easier to work with. I am just a beginner, so still a lot to learn.
