I have a TBird to detail that has black stains on the tan convertible top. The owner was told by the dealer that is the result of putting the top down when it was wet. Any thoughts on how to go about cleaning this. Anybody know if putting the top down wet can cause stains?

Thanks for any input.

most likely its black mold, it can stain non organic surfaces easily i would try a cleaner with enzymes in it. is it a fabric or vinyl top? fabric is more susceptible to this as its more porous then vinyl. best bet would be a enzyme cleaner.heat+moisture= mold. i would take some pictures of the problem.

It is a canvas top. Any suggestion for a specific enzyme cleaner? Thanks for your response.

I would recommend RagTop or 303 Fabric Cleaner. I know Miracle Pet Odor eliminator has enzymes and works well on stains. BTW our Tigers finished the season on a good note tonight!

I've got an 04 T-Bird with the sand color top that also had mildew on it from previous owner and you can use bleach with ragtop or 303 convertible top cleaner,go the Haartz web site they are the manufacturer for most convertible tops including theT-Bird.

Thanks. Great information. I will give that a shot. Happy New Year.

+food source which is dirt +low light +min of 72 hours of moisture...

Anyways, a good suggestion but you need to allow the enzyme to dwell for 24 hours min. A good enzyme is "Urine Off". Make sure the top is clean and synthetic - spray some on the stain and agitate gently. Cover with plastic so the enzyme stays wet longer. The longer it stays wet, the more effective it will be. You need time for the biological process of the enzyme to digest and break down the stain. DO NOT use if the top has an natural fiber in it as it will break down anything organic. I would be surprised if it is not 100% synthetic. Always test in an inconspicuous area before using.

Mold stains are very difficult to remove. Let us know how it goes.
