Finished a trade-in 740i that has 80/k on the odometer. Pretty good shape except for a truly nasty scratch on the hood....it was so deep, I almost gave up. The rotary + compound didn't help much and the solution was my trusty Festool in random orbit with a cutting pad and Optimum Compound mixed with XMT1 to keep it working longer. I probably spent 30 minutes on this scratch and the shop owner was amazed! He had written off the scratch himself.

Here's a pic after rotary work. The compound just smoothed out the ridges but on silver, you could see it in the right light (it's shown in the middle light)

Outside pic on a cloudy day. I'll take some inside pics tomorrow after I wax the car. It's finish is just compounded and glazed.

Interior Shot: When these cars are cleaned, the interior is just elegant!

Another Interior Shot. We don't try for the 'high gloss' approach

Nice Engine compartment shot for an 80/k 6 year old vehicle.

We've had an individual interested in the car spend about an hour with me while I detailed it. He was amazed at the cleanliness objective of the shop.

After random orbital and my "mix" of Optimum + XMT1

I love those old 7 series, think their classier and sportier then the new 7 (friend has an 06' 750, i-drive makes me want to put my fist through the dash lol). Was parked next to a last gen 750 (V12) today, black with those same M-sport wheels like in your pic, so sharp looking!!

OMG, Wow wow wow! I just enjoy looking at them BMW you do! Please toto keep them coming. And the write up awesome.

nice work!! it rocks.
hey, can i ask - you mixed optimum with xmt? i tried that and i got a bunch of no-no's from the forum.
???
any advice, toto?
thanks!
Lauren :)

Lauren: the reason I mixed the Optimum compound with XMT-1 was to give me a "paste" that I could work for several minutes. The Festool in random orbit doesn't generate the heat of a rotary and the scratch already had rounded edges from the rotary. The pic shows the length of the scratch and it was at least 6 inches in a curve.

Sometimes I'll mix products to get desired results.

Nice work, Toto. I love 7-series.
Sounds like an idea I could try later on of mixing compound with finishing polish? What ratio did you mix them in? 1:1?

supercharged: I mixed the two with an estimated guess. I made an "X" with Optimum and put 4 nickel sized drops of XMT-1 within the X. Like I said, I just wanted a product that would act as a "slurry" to wear down that large scratch.

Toto

yah, i wondered why you couldn't mix them!!!
thanks, and beautiful job, once again!!!;)

Man, nice work. That full car shot is my favorite. That body style is really classy, too bad it is usually an electrical nightmare. :(

Thanks folks! Here's a few more shots after I put a coat of Pinnacle Paste Glaze on the car. I forgot how nice that product is!

All done with Bimmers until next week. Should have 3-4 more after he buys at the Milwaukee auction.

Have a SAFE, Happy New Year's Holiday everyone!
