One of the decals on my boat motor was peeling, so it needed to be replaced. I ordered new ones for all the cowling, so I ripped a few of them off to apply the new updated ones. Figured while the decals were removed, might as well get rid of the swirl marks from improper wash/dry/wipe down techniques, and the scratches that are inevitable when tournament fishing. I wasn't sure what to use, did several test spots with different pads and products. Found the best to be Orange flat 5.5" foam LC pad w/ M105, and white flat 5.5" flat LC pad w/ M205. I didn't want to use my menzerna products on it since I wasn't sure how a DAT product would react with the painted cowling.

On to the pics...I will post one of the motor with the previous decals on it tomorrow morning, they are on a different computer.

After removing the decals, before correction...

Close up before. The whole motor cowl was covered with these swirls/scratches...

After about 3 hours compounding with 105 on just the cowl (top part of the motor), I was done! But ran out of daylight. The boat is too wide and long to fit in my 2 car garage, but got it backed in as far as it would go! The side rub rail of the boat was actually barely tapping on the side of the garage door opening when jumping on and off the boat. Perfect! I actually had to lower the power pole for it to even fit in!

Afters! Took about another 2 to 2 1/2 hours polishing with M205...

Now that the swirls have been addressed, time to line up the new decals...

I couldn't be happier with the results. Is it perfect, swirl free? No!!! But that is ok - its a tournament rig that sits outside 24/7 and gets a motor cover put on it every time. The motor cover is probably responsible for a lot of the swirls, but it has to be covered!

Tomorrow I plan to address the rest of the motor, and hopefully I have some pics to update with! The boat itself will get a full detail very soon, once the weather is consistently warm enough!

Thanks for looking guys.

Dang! Looking good! Can't wait to see the whole boat finished!

I bet that Merc makes the boat dance on water.
Thanks! I can't wait to finish the boat...I have Meg's Marine #44 Color Restorer, but after seeing the results after M205, I might do a test spot and compare the results between the two.

Yessir, it tries to walk a bit! This boat is a 21 ft Triton w/ the 225 hp Optimax, but we used to have a 20 foot Triton w/ the 225 hp Optimax. That 20 ft would chime walk like crazy! But it would also run 75-76 mph. My current boat (in the pics) will run about 73 mph, and starts to walk at about 66-67mph. I couldn't imagine a 250 hp on this boat. The hull is a crazy fast hull design. A new Triton that is 20 ft and uses a 250 hp Merc ProXS will only run about 71-72 mph! So mine with a 225 beats it already. I've heard reports of 78-80mph of my hull with a 250 hp Merc! I want!!! :D

But I'll take the 3 mph slower for the extra foot of length...it makes a world of difference when in rough water, which I am in frequently!

Wow! Fantastic job, bud! Excellent work, not only with the polishing, but also a first-class write-up. Thanks for taking the time to share, and I look forward for when you have the whole boat done. Now, that'll be a heck of a wire-up, lol!

Keep up the great work! :dblthumb2:

Thanks, Ryan!!! I'm glad we had that convo about differentiating techniques for the M products and the Menzerna products, that helped immensely!

Time to go grab some breakfast and hit the garage!!!

Nice rig. I used to sell Triton and they are extremely well made. The majority of Bass Boats I've driven (with big muscle) would chine walk at certain speeds, you had to drive through it. A four blade prop might help stabilize it and makes for a neck snapping hole shot.

Fine job on the engine cover, it looks great.

Really, that's awesome! I have heard lots of high performance bass boats will walk like that, so it never bothered me. Like you said, just gotta keep on it! I run a 4 blader for that reason - faster hole shot and better rough water grip. I have been really tempted to try out that Merc Fury prop, but having trouble deciding if I want to step down to a 3 blade. I would like the extra MPH claims, but I need that rough water grip more.

Thanks for the compliment, I really appreciate it!

Great turn around, really interested in seeing the rest of the boat completed!

The cowling turned out great!!! Nice job on it!! :xyxthumbs:

Sick! incredible work.
Thanks a lot man!

Thank you Rob!

Thanks! The whole boat is next when we get a warm weekend. We can't seem to get 2 warm days back to back! Yesterday 70, today 50. Hate this area's weather this time of year, it needs to freakin warm up already! I'm sure you and JSou feel the same!

UPDATE!

What a day. After several test spots, I found the best combo for the rest of the motor to be orange pad w/ M105 and white pad w/ M205. That combo got rid of the highly oxidized paint layer that was interupting my shine! It brought back the motor to look how it did when brand new, but probably even better! I appears the lower part of the motor was a single stage paint or something...my pads got caked with it after 1 6"x6" section! Luckily I have multiple pads so this isn't a day ruiner!

So after M105 and M205 over the whole rest of the motor, I applied a sealant - Four Star Ultimate Paint Protection over the whole motor top to bottom for protection. I don't really expect it to last too long, since part of the motor is abraded by water constantly at high speeds. The sealant on the cowling should last longer, but it does have a cover being put/taken on/off every trip Nonetheless, it made for some good pictures! These are after 4*UPP:

Also did a little bit of testing on the jackplate metal with some metal polish...Didn't do the whole thing, just figured out what will give the desired results.

Above polished, below not!

--------------------------------

This is my first big time correction since I fully jumped into detailing. I can say this motor turned out great with the majority of credit going to the AGO community since they help teach people how to achieve great results. Thanks everybody! Hopefully there will be another thread of the finished boat in a week or two!
