Body shop "detailers" sprayed some oppressive chemical air freshener. I'm dying.

All:

I finally got the nerve to take my 2000 mile new vehicle in to get the paint redone on the fenders, since Honda apparently can't do that in the factory. I had DO NOT WASH signs everywhere.

Manager called and asked if they could hand wash it. I told him that was fine, since it had dust all over it, and I'm polishing soon for Uber Ceramic coating.

As soon as I opened the door, I was hit with the worst air freshener in the entire world.

You know the stuff they spray in a 75,000 mile $3,000 used car to get rid of the smell so they can sell it? It's that. Makes my brand new $40k car smell like someone tried to cover up a rotting cadaver.

What at on earth is it, and how do I get rid of it? I mean, I had Ultima Interior Guard all over the surfaces inside. I'm willing to do what it takes to restore my new car smell. I was so nauseous on the way home, I wanted to just pull into a dealer and trade it.

Any my ideas for me?

Smell every mat and if sprayed on mat it can be a easy fix.otherwise you will have to bury your head into the floorboards to find the smell. If it were me,I probably would go back.

Awesome call on the mat.

If it's everywhere, try aquarium activated carbon/charcoal. Pour some onto a small tray and leave it in the vehicle overnight. Of all the home remedies, this method simply works - yay science!

Tried the baking soda & bbq charcoal route, and none were effective as above.

Just like any other offensive odor in a car, you need to remove it from the source first.

Activated charcoal will help AFTER you've removed the source of the smell and kill any lingering smell in the air still.

Simple solution, extract your carpets and do an all around interior detail on the car. Wipe all panels, etc down. If you have cloth seats, extract those too.

After that let the car air out and the carpets, etc dry.

Essentially if you have to, treat it like a smoke smell removal.

Good news. I'm pretty sure it's whatever they sprayed on the interior.

The spotless, Ultima protected interior. . . .

Anyway, I nosed around, and I'm heading out with the 303 cleaner ASAP.

Thanks a lot y'all.
