Stepped out of the office and into the shop today to help get some work done, and had a chance to take a couple of pictures of my completed work!

Long story short, we are down to just myself and one technician for the rest of the week. The technician that worked on this vehicle finished assembling it on Monday before leaving for vacation. We replaced the front bumper, right fender, and repaired the right front door. I finished the job by wetsanding, compounding, and polishing the fender and door. Sorry that there is no before or in-progress shots.

Process:
Machine dampsand with 1500grit 3M Purple finishing discs

Machine dampsand with 3000grit 3M Trizact foam-backed finishing discs

Compound with Megs M105 using a Presta Black/White Wool Cutting pad on DeWalt 849X Rotary at 1600 rpm

Polished with Megs M205 using Megs Black SoftBuff 2.0 polishing pad on DeWalt rotary at 1000 rpm

Finishined the polishing cycle by dropping rpm down to 600 rpm and pulled rotary away from panel to jewel paint

Wipe down with bodyshop grade wax and grease remover

Wash and dry

No toppers or LSP, just PURE PAINT!

Great work, was the jump from 1500 to 3000 preety easy to get the 1500 out? I've been thinking if I should jump further like that.

As long as you work clean and constantly check your work, it is not an issue. I have jumped from 400 grit by hand to 1000 by hand with no issue-it wasn't fun-but it was all i had available to me and i made it work. I have also had to go from 800 to 2000 by hand before. It really is just a case of working clean and checking your work.

I really like that color. Do your customers pay extra for that level of finish or does everything leave your shop with that level of finish? Looks great btw, excellent work by painter and you

This was a case where the clear coat came out filled with dirt and trash, so it required that level of sanding and compounding.
