Brake Caliper Stains?

Hey Guys,

I bought Sonax Full Effect wheel cleaner a while back. Eager to try out the cleaner on my new car, I followed the directions and sprayed them onto my rims, waited, and washed them off.

Unfortunately it left stains on my brake calipers. The only thing I can think of is that maybe my brakes were still hot at the time I sprayed them. Very well may have been the case because I arrived home from work and was eager to try out my new purchase.

Any thoughts on how to fix this other than repainting them? I tried respraying sonax full effect when the rims were cold and also tried scrubbing them with a wheel brush and Meg's GC wash. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Are your brake calipers painted/powdercoated with a clear finish? If it is, you can try polishing them with compound/polish liquid + MF towel and see if the stain comes off.

The calipers are made of rough-cast steel or aluminum, so it's not something you can polish to remove the stains.

It sounds like heat was the culprit, which is why you'll find "never work on wheels that are hot to the touch" on every wheel and tire cleaner available.

Here's what I would do at this point....

Paint the calipers black or red. :)

You have a cool car (Accord Sport right?) with sharp 18 inch wheels. Painted brake calipers will really set it off.

the cailpers on my wifes Subaru did the same thing with Iron X, it was my first time using it and the brakes were still hot from making a trip to the store. time for caliper paint!

Yeah I have the v6 coupe. I was thinking about painting the calipers anyway, now I have a legitimate excuse to do it haha.

Thanks guys! You live and you learn I guess. Still new to all of this, but I love learning from everyone here. Thanks for all the help!
