What's up guys, I just brought home a brand new 2016 black turbo mustang. Last time I owned a black car was my 1.8T jetta back in 2000 and it was my last black car for obvious reasons. When I seen the new body mustang in black I just couldn't pass it up. I said wth, i'm now way more mature, now I think alot more before doing things lol so I decided to give it a shot and bring the black beauty home(yes the gf is very jealous).

Now the dilemma is, I don't have a clue what to do or where to start. I def do not want to go with my usual 1 bucket route and start washing her as I want to do this right from the start. It's been raining since I brought her home and today for first time the sun broke out. She currently seem dealer swirl free and I don't think I will have to clay her but I might just to be safe. So I'm guessing do the 2 bucket wash, clay, wash, seal and wax?

It's been a while since I was ocd with brands, steps and schedules since everything I owned after my last black car was very forgiving so pep boys did fine. Any help on how I should approach this new black beauty would be very very much appreciated guys.

Do you guys have any particular brand recommendations?

There are a lot of brands and a lot of opinions but the general guiding rule might be - find something you like and use it often (Mike Phillips credit for that quote.) I started on Meguiar's and have landed on 3D products currently.

In the end - have fun!

I would also strongly encourage you to read up on our Proper Car Washing & Car Drying Techniques how-to guide. The tips and tricks found in this guide will help you keep your new Mustang swirl and scratch free.

For wheels and tires, I'm a big fan of this kit (especially if you opted for the 20" wheels):

Pinnacle Concours Wheel & Tire Kit

Pick up one of these to clean the face of the wheels:

That would be a great start. :dblthumb2:

Here's something I posted earlier today for a guy getting a new car...

Here's my advice, read these two articles...

How To Detail Your Brand New Car by Mike Phillips

and this one...

DON'T WASH CAR !!!!!!!!!!!

I can no longer count how many people that have come to this forum to share their NIGHTMARE experience of taking their brand new car back to the dealership for some form of REGULAR MAINTENANCE only to have the car wash guy or the detailer totally scratch and swirl out the paint.

So read the Don't Wash Car article and don't forget the advice shared in it before taking your car to the dealership.

Besides that...

Get a foam gun and learn how to wash and dry your car carefully. The reason why is because for most people, it's how the car is washed and dried that create the majority of swirls and scratches in the paint over time.

I teach the Gentle Approach for washing a car in my ACR 3-day detailing classes and have a brand new video explaining this on our Roku channel.

I agree with Nick. The BLACKFIRE BlackICE kit is perfect for black paint work. Here is a review I completed a while back on this wax as well as the prep products leading up to it. It looks stunning on properly prepped black paint.

To get your new mustang in the right direction I would perform a full detail and prep work to include claying and polishing. Then apply BlackICE.

Do you happen to have a machine and pads?

Thank you so much for all of the advice! Black fire does indeed seem brilliant and I'm definitely considering it right now along with few other product brands.

After reading through some of the posts here I decided to move on with my first wash yesterday since its been 2 days of straight rain since I brought her home and I didn't want to chance on damaging anything due to more and more dirt build up(she's my daily currently, trying to change that tho). After carefulIy inspecting the paint I did notice light scratches here and there but nothing that had me too worried. No real visible swirls. So I just decided to keep it simple and do the 2 bucket wash method and finish it off with Griots one step sealant since I already had it. It's nice product imo but I think I can def use something better.

So, I had to drive this beautifully clean looking car today to work and my luck has it that it poured down on me again and now the car is looking dirty AGAIN :-(. Yup, now the black car ownership memory is coming back lol. So in this situation, would you guys recommend to completely rewash the car, detail spray, or waterless wash? I want to really try to keep this car swirl free so I'm a little puzzled in regards to which "in between" approach is more beneficial.

No, I do not have a machine atm.

I guess under the assumption that the rain was nothing too nasty, acid laden etc - I would choose between a rinseless or waterless.
