I just got 2 brand new Flex Foam backing plates, 3" and 5" but to my surprise they're spinning loose on my 849x, they just don't lock on the thread.

Luckily I bought a double sided Pad Rotary adapter, but I really don't feel like using a 5" with the adapter...

Has anyone had this problem already, I'm missing something here ?

Are the backing plates from over seas? If so, they may be metric thread

Well, I'm from Brazil... all backing plates were purchased over AG.
But my 849x was purchased here in Brazil.... but everywhere states it's a 5x8" - 11 spindle.... but the official Brazilian Dewalt website doesn't states the spindle... only online stores states that...
we usually follow the American standard... and all these polishers are made in China anyway..... but somethings seems to be odd..... and I'm start to think it's a spindle difference....

Do you know how can I measure the spindle on my machine ?
I can't find this information anywhere.... neither on box, manual or dewalt website....

Most likely your polisher is a 220 volt version with a M14 thread.
The backing plate you purchased from AG are 5/8" threads.

They are not compatible.

Mine is 110v version...

Damn it!!! I just found it, written M14 on the side label... I really overlooked that....

Jesus..... tons of money on products that won't fit my machine....

Is there a way to change the spindle ?!

Too much work involved in changing out the factory spindle. Best to buy a M14 to 5/8" adapter. They are many types available, but make sure you buy one that has enough threads on one end and is deep enough on the other.

Yes this sucks!
I was able to find only one website with one that seems to be long enough....
These shortened versions won't do the job as I a bought a Dynabrade adapter and these short ones won't screw on it....
I've emailed these guys to check if the size of this one is the one I need.

14mm to 5/8-11 Machine Adapter - South Shore Mfg. Store

The sad part is.... it'll takes ages to arrive here....

You can have an adapter made at a machine shop - that's what a number of detailers over here who buy their products in the US but use locally-available machines do.

Best and simplest solution considering the time factor :props:

I thought about it too, but these type of thing here in Brazil is almost non existent...
Either they want to build at least 1000 of the piece or I can try a CNC shop which will ask me for the cad project and charge me probably the price of a new machine to do it....

I'll try to find something today, if I can't, I'll just order from the link above..... the replied me and the thread is 15/16" long, just like the one in the machine, so it will do to me.

I just think things can get too strange having the dynabrade connected to an adapter... maybe I wasted my money either on the dynabrade or on the machine...

Far be it for me to tell you about your city, but you might be looking in the wrong place. There is always an underground (legit) economy.
Where do you think engine rebuilders and modders get their work done?
You got to get gritty hand, get off the computer, ask the right people, and pound the pavement, IMHO.

Good luck and God Bless...:autowash:

You're right, internet made me a little lazy.... lol...
Now if it doesn't shows up on the internet, it doesn't exists to me....

Luckily I've found one of these places, close to my home... let's hope the guys don't charge an arm and leg for it. But they don't have any modern cnc stuff... good old hand work... at least they claim on their website to be on business for 40 years.

That's the beauty of it all...some old guy with antique equipment, a scrap piece of square stock, and bam...done deal. :)

I love it when a plan comes together :props:

Well, I'll know it on monday.... but today I managed to get my hands on a short type adapter that managed to hold a little bit my dynabrade..... but it was too unstable.... I guess it won't work that distant from the machine
