What would you use to remove red brick markings from a black plastic mirror? I guess I got a little careless going through a tight lane at the bank the other day and one of my mirrors contacted a red brick column. :bash: Thanks for any advice!

My first thought was to use cash and buy a new mirror housing, but let me first ask how much scratching is present? Were they red clay bricks or were they painted? Is the mirror housing textured plastic or smooth plastic? If the bricks were painted it may just be paint transfer. Do you currently have any detailing products on hand? If so which products do you have? answering these questions will help you in getting a good suggestion.

Dave,

I'm not sure if the bricks are painted or red clay (I'd guess red clay). The plastic has a very slight texture. When I close my eyes and run my finger over the area, I can't feel any scratches from the bricks (although I think there will be some visible scratches once/if I get the brick coloring off). I do have a number of detailing products, ranging from polishes to cleaners to trim restorers, etc. I'm not afraid to buy something else if there are any good recomendations. Replacing the mirror would be a last (and probably costly) resort.

Thanks,

Craig

Try with "Flitz Mini scuff pads" and any all purpose cleaner. I have used this before with great results.

I would suggest to first apply some trim restorer to it so whatever you do use doesn't stain the plastic. then maybe a straight APC or a paint cleaner like Pro Polish. Whatever you do use as a cleaner I would suggest using a cotton terry towel as opposed to a microfiber as the terry will have a little more bite to it but will not leave a scuff mark. I suggest attacking it chemically trying a few different cleaners before moving on to any scuff pads etc. Just be careful not to use things that will melt or dissolve plastic such as lacquer thinner. Just like polishing paint, least aggressive method first. Sorry it took me until 1 am to reply back to this thread.
