Hi everyone!

Has anyone brought a polisher on the plane? Can I put it in my carry-on luggage or should it be in the checked-in luggage? Won't I have any problems trying to bring a polisher (Meg's G100) to my destination? I'm just worried that they might think it's something else (because of 9/11) and confiscate my polisher leaving me with nothing...

Feed back please

Thank you!

I would check the TSA website or try to give them a call. It seems to me it would be OK to carry on but I would check with them. The only problem with putting it in your checked bag is sometimes things disappear from them. I travel a lot with my job and I don't put any electronics in my checked bags, I know people who have had things disappear.

Ha! I'm getting very angry! I'm thinking of a few months ago when I flew to stl from fl....I won't get into it but I bought my cyclo and my tornador...the cyclo was fine but they wouldn't let me take the tornador. I had to check and missed my flight. They said it resembled a gun...lol

Why not put it in a box with your name on it and check it in.

Maybe Mike can spread a bit of wisdom here.

Before the era of TSA pat downs... I tried to carry my trusty, dusty Makita Rotary Buffer onto the plane with me for a Roadshow class and the wouldn't let me as they said the polisher was unwieldy.

From TheFreeDictionary.com

un·wield·y (n-wld)
Difficult to carry or manage because of size, shape, weight, or complexity:

I would check it or ship it ahead of time...

He might get away with it... the G100 is not as unwieldy looking as a rotary buffer...

Whenever I travel I pack 1 or 2 Brinkmann Swirl Finder Lights with me, sometimes in my carry on and to date, each time my luggage has gone through the X-ray machine the run the belt back and forth, have a couple people look at it and then remove them and have me explain what they are.

I think it's because they have a ray gun look to them...

I travel with 2 PC's and the Flex Rotary (lighter than the Makita) in a hard case small suitcase that is small enough to be carry-on. But I just check it, usually due to be able to carry a backpack with computer/camera, or to carry the doggies. I fill up the spaces in between with large mf towels, backing plates, and pads until it reaches 50 lbs. Then I throw on top a few business cards and a sheet with my tax ID (the company's), company name and contact info in a official-looking letterhead, just in case ;) The TSA always goes through it, though, as I find the slip in the suitcase on the other side. But nothing has ever gone missing, or been damaged in about 8 trips with various connections. The TSA should be fine with the machines, just keep an eye out on the accessories ;)

Thanks for the feedback guys! I really appreciate it.

Good news guys!!! The polisher went through without any hassles. Thanks again for the advice!

Good thread, I am planning on bringing my PC with me to NY on Monday.
I hope it doesn't come up missing when I get my checked luggage back.
I have had many problems in the past with missing items.

There is no consistency with the TSA, and if stolen you will be stuck between the TSA blaming the airline and the airline blaming the TSA.

Mail it to your destination via UPS, FedEx, USPS, with lots of insurance and save yourself a mountain of grief.

Marc, whatever you do.... DONT try to put it in your shoe OR underwear!!! Im the MANIm the MAN

Yeah, but I bet nothing so esoteric or "unwieldy" as a PC...iPod yes.

It's really a shame how the most expensive and "luxurious" form of travel has eroded into a humiliating and dehumanizing experience (as well as the "fastest" being slowed down significantly). My father must be rolling over in his grave. I agree, shipping is a lot easier on the brain than worrying about being detained if you have something weird in your luggage.

I took two Brinkmann Swirl Finder Lights in my carry on luggage for Germany and while I was getting searched to the 9th degree I told Nick to be ready to take pictures of the Swirl Finder Lights being removed from my luggage and then me getting interrogated over them but this time it didn't happen.

You just never know what's going to raise a red flag...
