Broken?

I was using my Porter cable today with a white polishing pad and megs cleaner wax 6. Nothing too crazy. However, about half way through my backing plate flew off. It doesn't look like it just came loose, it looks like it broke. Am I just out of luck on this? It's only four years old and is not used for a business or anything so I'm surprised it would break so soon.
 
looks like the shaft broke off. you are most likely going to have to buy a new DA... :(

type in ' pc shaft broke ' in the search and you'll see some similar incidents from others...
 
I agree! Time to look into a new DA. I think you will have fun trying to choose a DA from Megs, GG, PC, Boss, Rupes or Flex....good hunting!!
 
Thanks for the replies guys. I was afraid that would be the answer. :(

I know this was an anomaly as the PC is very well reviewed and frankly I liked it a ton for the last few years. However, I also admit that I'm scared to death of buying another one after today. I mean that could have seriously messed up the paint and just last week I was doing my father in law's BMW 7 series. He would have killed me.

Time to start reading all the threads on polishers I guess. Thanks again.

I'm leaning that direction...It likely is overkill for a weekend warrior like me, but I'm also a sucker for german products..Not to mention I do get annoyed with my pad stalling on every contour with my PC and it sounds like that's not an issue with the Flex.

Does anyone know why the pink Flex is cheaper than the normal Flex DA in the store? I have no problem sporting pink to save $$$. :xyxthumbs:
 
if you want another PC-style DA then go for the GG6. if you interested in a larger throw DA then look at the G15/G21. if you want a forced rotation DA then the Flex 3401...

IIRC, there's no difference other than it being pink on the exterior. not to mention it's limited edition...

Thanks for the tips. I think I'm going to get the GG6. 109 bucks and free shipping is too much to pass up I think.
