Wondering what is the best to wash a vehicle. A boar's hair brush or sheepskin mitt.
Thanks

i would not touch a brush, any brush, to my cars paint no matter what. i would rather not wash it than use a brush. BUT, its not hard to find a wool mitt or microfiber mitt for cheap (walmart, lowes, auto zone) and thats the best option (i guess by "sheepskin" you mean wool ;-). but anything with the word brush in it is not good.

I use a couple of MF mitts from Wally World; one for high altitude, one for low altitude.

I find it painful to watch someone take any type of brush to their paint.

If you use a boar's hairbrush you should not have any problems. I used them all the time. The hair is as soft as the wool mitts

+1000. I have done some testing with a "mid quality" non-boars hair style car wash brush. The type most consumers would find in the "car wash" section of their local department store. I am short on time so I'm not going to link the thread (it's in my posting history though). One wash left MASSIVE straight line scratches and marring. All I know is there is no way I will EVER use any type of brush on any of mine or my client's vehicles. I don't care if it is made out of baby seal fur and rainbows, if it's a brush it is not touching the paint. Period.

I was always curious how the MF chenille mits were from WalMart or autoparts stores. I may have to pick one up!

the only brush i would use on the paint would be a boars hair brush, but with any type of hair brush the softness will probably vary from one to another. almost kind of like sheepskin mitts, that's why i like to hand pick them in person (if possible) so i can check and feel the softness/plushness before buying (pick them like fruit). i've been happy with using a grout sponge or sheepskin mitt...

I would disagree. A plush microfiber has the ability to lift dirt where as a brush on sweeps the dirt across your paint.

Thanks for the replies. The reason I asked is I saw a thread on here this week where someone, I don't remember who, had step by step pictures where they detailed a black porche and I think they used a boars hair brush to wash the porche. I think it might have been Mike Phillips but I can't find the post.

I've seen Mike using Boar's hair. I don't think they are bad, especially for large vehicles and when you are going to be doing polishing afterwards. For maintenance washes, no way. I do the rinsless Gary Dean method.

This may be one of the videos where someone saw Mike use a boar's hair brush.

Some forum users have made some experiments and found out that Montana Boar’s Hair Wash Brush are paint safe. Others, like Nicholas@Autowerx, have found differently (I remember his thread). To be on the safe side, avoid it and get something like:

Merino wool wash mitt, auto wash mitt, sheepskin wash mitt

It's really the best I have used to this day.
