Buffing daily

Were I work I buff cars every day, I use hookit ll 1500 then hookit trizact p3000. I use 3m perfect it ll rubbing compound 05974 and Polish with 05996 perfect it ll foam polishing. I've tried farecla g3 and total that seems to work ok, but what's the best compound to cut fast?

i use 3m foam buff pads also.

Fast cutting compounds would be the most aggressive cutting compounds and we carry,

3M
Optimum
Poorboys
Mothers
Meguiar's
Menzerna
Pinnacle XMT

The most aggressive compound in each line will easily remove #2000 grit and some will remove more aggressive sanding marks.


If you're finishing out your sanding with #3000 Trizact removing sanding marks shouldn't be too hard to do with any good quality cutting compound and a wool cutting pad.

We were sanding on fresh paint, finishing out with #3000 Unigrit discs from Meguiar's and all the compounds removed the sanding marks pretty easily, even by people that had never used a rotary buffer before.

First things first and that's learning the 10 @ 10 Technique for picking up a bead of product...

Tilt about 10 degrees and run the buffing pad over the bead at the 10 O'clock position with the 3 O'clock position of the pad just lightly against the paint...

When you get to the end of the bead of product then lay the pad flat and begin compounding the section you're working.

I do alot of edge to edge sanding, fresh paint or a day or two cured, will wool heat faster than foam? Buffing on lessonal clear also. We are pretty high paced body shop at times. I need to find the quickest way with best results

I wouldn't expect anybody using anything less than wool in a body shop environment to do cutting/compounding. Wool has more cut, runs much cooler, and is smoother than foam.

What about using water with wool pads?

I'd pick up some 105, it makes short work of sanding marks and finishes out pretty nicely. With a wool pad, it will take no time.

Does anyone think that the trizact p3000 da sumtimes doesn't work? Like I get sum that have st1 on the back and sum have st3, the st3 seem to work better or many its me Duno. I do 90% my sanding with a da. May try sum 3000 paper.

switch over to megs sanding disks, they are more consistent. With a DA you can't really go wrong and then follow with 105 on wool then 205 on foam. If you do this for a living then your times will be cut down and your quality will increase.

Have you personally used the trizacts and compared them to the Meguiars sanding disks? Im just curious because I have been using 3M's sanding disks for years and have not seen any "inconsistencies" betweens disks or any problems with the finish they produce.

I have used the trizact disks, alot actually, they are great disks but i have had a problem with the adhesive holding the backing to the foam interface. It seems they don't last as long as the megs disks too, as far as effective abrasion. The finish from both is nearly identical, if not perfectly identical...my personal choice on megs is due to them never falling apart on me and i can use them longer before its time to switch out.

Your choice may be different than mine due to experience, but when i have something fail twice on me and cause a problem on both occasions its time to switch to something new. Since using meg's disks i've never had a problem.
