Will the cheapo covers scratch my paint?

Just make sure the paint is clean... some shops think they are doing good by using them ... but they fail to clean the area first and the cover rubs all of the dirt into the fender like sandpaper...

You could always drape a large WW towel on the fender under the cover if you have one that you don't mind getting dirty.

Thats what i would do to be sure......:righton: .

If I'm working on my engine I usually put a large microfiber towel doubled up on my fender.

Use a MF or a new Terry towel. I would never clean or rub a terry towel on my car, but I use them for fender covers, and they work just fine (as long as the area is covered). But no matter what, get somthing, you can correct swirls, you can't correct dings from tools, scratchs, dropped parts, or destroyed paint from brake fluid, etc.
