Can the second step be performed later?

Hi,

After wet sanding my car (1500 - 3000 (3k w/DA) I used menz fg400 and with a lot of effort worked it and go rid of most of the sand marks.
I have menz sf 4000 on hand and have used in a fender to see the final result. I say it look pretty good for an amateur DIY like myself.

Is there a drawback if I don't perform the second step for weeks?

No. You just have to look at it unfinished until you get to it. If it's a prolonged lapse between, you might want to put down an LSP to cover your paint in the meantime. Don't worry, your second stage of machine work will remove it.
