Canon Rebel T5i

After 4 years of taking lots of pictures here at Autogeek I finally wore my Canon Rebel T1i out to the point that it will no longer take pictures. Push down on the shutter button and nothing. The screen is cracked and the threads on the lens are chipped off. The view finder is also broke in that it jiggles around and the lens is toast.

It was a great camera, my third Canon Rebel since they were first introduced...

Presenting the new picture taker....

The battery is charging and she'll be ready to go for tonight's extreme makeover projects...

Excuse the iPhone pictures I've been posting all day including the above, like I said, the old camera finally gave up the ghost at the 4x4 Truck show I went to last Saturday night...

Congrats! It sounds like you needed a new one.

Craz0boy yes it does.

Good choice there Mr. Phillips. Congrats on the new acquisition

What.... no peanuts? ROFL!

Can't wait to see your photo skills go through the roof. I personally shoot with a Nikon D90, and although I love the HD vid capacity, I NEVER use it.

I'm still using the original Rebel (6 megapixels) that I bought in 2003.

Guess it's time to upgrade.

Great camera Mike! Congratulations on the purchase.

Nikon FTW!

... but all "fan boying" aside, that T5i looks like a serious upgrade! Enjoy! Don't forget to take some of those "low down front grill shots" :)

I've been looking into these, think I'm going to pull the trigger on the D5200

You'll love any DSLR you get if you take the time to learn how to use it! One bit of advice if you want to get the most out of your camera is to invest in some quality lenses.

Congrats Mike. I went from a REbel XT to a T4i last summer. The speed and quality difference is amazing. You will love the new camera. Takes pretty good HD video also. The STM lens is very quiet. You cant hear it focusing on video.

:iagree:

Just go into it understanding that you are buying into a system, not just a camera.
Once you start to acquire different lenses, you'll realize that it's the lenses that are your investment.

As the camera technology improves, you can change the body, but you'll keep the lenses as long as you stay with the same brand.

Choose wisely.

Any recommendations for 1 or 2 very versatile real-word lenses? So many choices and they are expensive!

18-50mm 2.8

50mm 1.8

and a

70-200mm 2.8

This is my inventory, and hardly use the 50mm

I use Nikon so I would say 17-55 f/2.8 and 70-200 f/2.8. That basically covers the gist of it. I also love some primes 35 f/1.8 and 105 f/2.8 macro.

It all depends on what you shoot? If you do a bit of everything, zoom lenses are your best bet.

The belo were all taken using my new Canon Rebel T51 on the all automatic setting with zero tweaks to the picture. Pictures were taken on the "small" file size setting and the resized using Easy Thumbnails to 800 pixels wide.
