I came out this morning to seeing my SUV had been egged last night. I was leaving for work so I haven't a chance to try and clean it off yet. It's about 30F degrees where I live. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Here are a couple I "googled" this morning. Which one of these would you suggest? Or a better method if you know of any.

#1

Using your hand, remove all traces of the egg shell from the car.

Once pieces of the egg shell are removed, clean the egg and yolk from the car using a soft towel. It is important to remove all traces of the egg shell. This way, you avoid scratching the surface of the car

Create a mixture using 1 part water and 1 part vinegar.

Soak a towel in the mixture, and place it on the egg stain. You may also spray the mixture onto the car using a spray bottle. Allow the towel to sit for at least 15 minutes.

Remove the towel. Dry the area using a different towel.

Repeat if necessary

#2

Saturate the area with Isopropyl Alcohol and keep it ‘wet’ for 4-5 minutes with a soaked towel laid on the stain, do not agitate the surface.

Flush with clean water and dry thoroughly.

Inspect surface for cracking, discoloration or other damage with a 30X lighted magnifying loupe, use a chemical cleaner to remove any discoloration, and then apply a paint protection product.

If the clear coat shows signs of failure (cracking) take vehicle to a professional paint / body shop.

This sucks to say the least. I just got a new Mustang and have ran out of garage space so I have to park the SUV outside now. It only has 14K miles on it and is (was) in perfect condition. Guess I'll be getting some camera's today....

Thanks for your help.

Number 1 sounds good. Not sure about the vinegar though. Most important thing is to remove it asap. Keep us posted. I'm sure there are others that could benefit from your experience.

You definitely want to clean it asap! The quicker the less chance of clear coat damage.

Thanks for the replies - I plan on doing "something" as soon as I get home this evening. I'll keep researching for the best method.

I would rather get punched in the face then have my car egged. Sorry to hear about this unfortunate incident :(

The egg will etch into the clear very quickly so whatever method you use, don't wait, get it off of there today.

I think the appropriate satisfaction comes after removing the eggs and residue from the vehicle...consistent and severe application of pain to the perpetrators.

Not politically correct but how I feel about it.

Says "Gunslinger" lol. Very well put. Pain is a must in this situation.

Here's an article on this topic, if you have what I call "Imprint Chips" left in the paint after you remove the egg then there's not much you can do about it.

Imprint Chips - Chips in the paint caused by a thrown egg

When an egg is thrown at a car's painted panel, the force of the shell impacting and breaking up against the paint leaves a very specific type of chip pattern I call Imprint Chips.

Fixing Imprint Chips is very difficult because there are usually lots of them in varying sizes including very tiny chipped areas.

You might be able to do a pretty good job of filling in the imprint chips using the Dr. ColorChip system.

If my a miracle there are no chips, just a stain from the egg then you should be able to undo the stain damage using a paint cleaner, polish or compound.

Thank you for your responses everyone!

When I get home from work tonight I'll be cleaning this (in the dark with halo lighting) and hope that I find no chips....

I'll update the thread as to what I did and the outcome in hopes it may help others.

Hope ya have a better day tomorrow.

:nomore: EGGS.....

This is long but I wanted to share in hopes it may help others someday...

First, sorry no pictures, it's dark and freezing cold... I froze my butt off. I had to keep cominng inside to run my hands under warm water to stay warm..... Winter sucks about right now. I had a dog walker say to me "it's kinda cold to be washing a car isn't it?" I got a laugh out of that. My neighbors think I'm crazy already with my cars and motorcycles and all the cleaning I do in the warmer months.

So after hours of cleaning I think I got it all. I spotted what seems to have been 2 eggs thrown, although it seemed like more. One hit the front headlight lens and went up under the hood all over the inside of the engine, etc..., on the top of the hood, down the front and on the side drivers side panel. The other hit the drivers side mirror and went all over the drivers side door, the window and even spots on the roof. The damage?? I noticed the typical circle from impact where it hit the headlight lens and a very small area on the drivers side mirror. Didn't notice any chips though more of a circle type shatter if that makes any sense. Really not bad considering how much crap was all over.

What I did.....

After researching, listening to comments made here and thinking about what everyone here posts about washing, claying, polishing, sealing, etc.... it occured to me whatever I did I needed to keep the surface slick. So with that I decided on the following... call it retarded but I think it really worked...

1. Picked any egg shell I saw on the surface

2. Rinsed the surface with some warm water and then got some vasaline hand lotion... yes you read it right, vasaline hand lotion. I then very gently proceeded to rub very large amounts around and on the areas where there was egg. I let it set on the paint for about 30 minutes while I dethawed.

3. Dethawed, got some MF cloths and very gently began to wipe off the lotion being careful to keep examining the MF for any debris. The first wipe only removed some of the lotion (remember I put a lot!). I made a second pass and noticed the egg was not there, like it disolved or something. There was still a light coat of lotion at this point.

4. Got my favorite auto shampoo, hot water in two buckets and proceeded to wash as we all are familiar with.

5. Got many more buckets of hot water and rinsed throughly.

As a side note - - I even used the lotion on the trim, windows, everywhere....

From the halo lights I had I made a close examination and it looked really good with no signs of anything left other than the two hit marks. Which stinks but I am happy it was only as small as it was. The SUV is a dark grey and you really have to put the light on it to see it. Daylight will tell the tale though probably.

So there you have it... call me crazy but I did what I thought was best and hopefully the paint is okay. My next step is to wash, clay, polish and seal... AGAIN. This time though because of the cold weather I may have to source this one out. Anyone know a good detailer in the NOVA area?

Thanks again for all of your support and I hope this may be of value to others as unfortunate as it may be.

Regards -
