I have a clear bra on my Porsche. The dealer gave me Plexus spray to clean it but I was reading and it says to also use a non abrasive wax. Does anyone have any suggestions on an excellent non abrasive wax for the bra? Or should I just use the spray? I never had a clear bra before so I'm not sure of the best care for it.
Thanks,
Al

Just put any wax over it. Abrasives are not going to kill it.... people even polish them out. So.. you can choose whatever sealant or caranuba wax you like..

I have seen many suggest a pure sealant (Wolfgang, Four Star) but I still find Plexus to be the best referral. Might not last as long, but so darn easy to use. DP makes a version called Plex-All.

I used WG DPS on my clear bra, like I would any other part of the car. I even coat it with a layer of Souveran. Plexus is okay, but I prefer the real stuff. Anyone want to buy a can of Plexus LOL :D

I have a clear bra on my 05 Xenon Blue Cadillac XLR and I respectfully disagree. If the wax or sealant dries to a haze, dont apply to a clear bra unless you stay away from the bra edges! Myy XLR had chalky edges when I bought it. Q-Tips and APC got most of it off. The best sealant for a clear bra is UPGP (Ultima Paint Guard Protectant if you are new to detail bboards). keep all polish away from the edges.
Most Detail Sprays work well on bras. IMO the best are Optimum and Finish Kare 425. I am a fan of Optima Car Wax but haven't thought to apply it to a bra. IMO a WOWA is your best bet for a clear bra. A WOWO is my second choice. I'll try OCW and get back if it does not work well.

The detailing shop that installed my 3M never suggested to me to put any wax on it. They suggested I use 303 Aerospace Protectant which I have used with no problems. It leaves a nice slick surface. I've gone through a winter and my bra still looks new. I spray it on everytime I wash the car though theoretically it will last through a few washes. I'm running low on 303 Aerospace so I had ordered DP Plex-All to try last week. It might be just me, but I prefer to stick with products designed for the purpose, and that's why I will stick with the vinyl protectants for the 3M.

Most Clear Bra have a UV coating and clear coat and can be treated just like any other part of the paint of your car. I have never heard of using vinyl protectant, but I guess that sort of makes sense. I'll stick with my normal paint processes and I agree, tape up the edges of the bra first, before applying any sort of wax. Getting it off the edges is not fun.

Let's break this down and make it real simple...

I have a clear bra on my Porsche. The dealer gave me Plexus spray to clean it but I was reading and it says to also use a non abrasive wax.

What do you already use for a wax on the paint on the Porsche? Chances are it's a non-abrasive wax and chances are you can use it on the clear bra.

Does anyone have any suggestions on an excellent non abrasive wax for the bra?

The goal of a wax or paint sealant is to create a sacrificial barrier coating to protect the surface being coated from anything that would touch the surface and cause harm.

The thickness of the coating you will leave behind by anything you pour out of a bottle, scoop out of a can or spray from a sprayer will be very thin and measured in microns.

So yes, it's important to maintain all aspects of your car's exterior with quality products but keep i mind, anything that lands on the bra that is strong enough, sharp enough or corrosive enough to harm the flexible layer of plastic is going to also be able to go through the thin layer of protection. Just keep your expectations real.

You can use any quality wax or paint sealant on the clear bra and there are also specialty products just for clear plastics that are non-abrasive, here's one and its a spray-on product. This is actually the product you'll see being applied in our new Diamondite TV Commercial.

Diamondite® Clear Plastic Liquid Armor

Or should I just use the spray? I never had a clear bra before so I'm not sure of the best care for it.

Thanks,

Al

The most important thing you can do for a clear bra is to keep it clear by keeping it swirl and scratch-free. Most people put swirls and scratches into their clear bra and into their car's paint by the way they wash and dry it, or by the way the person they pay to wash and dry it touches it. (Car Wash).

How do you wash your car?

If you want your clear bra to stay clear so you can always see the color of the paint under it you need to make sure however it's "touched", and by touched I mean anytime something is wiped over it whether that's a microfiber towel or a car wash mitt, you need to insure these things are the highest quality you can obtain and then use good technique when wiping or washing the car and the bra.

I will repost this comment at a later time.

Boy, thats pretty gutsy advertising all this stuff. Did you clear it, with AG's Staff ?

I only say this, cause it's your first Post/Thread.

Al Pap...don't want to hijack your thread

Eric (benzcl55)..I have a client with a Lexus SUV that the clear bra has deteriorated to the point of flaking off and severe cracking. I've tried to remove, but only little pieces come off, like it's really dried out.
Any suggestions on removal?? The hood section is huge
I have removed these types of bra's in the past and never ran across this problem.........there's nothin like the old 2 hook design...haha

Dean,

I just read the rules of the road and I missed that statement. I saw other promos on there and figured that as long as I was not off topic or profane I was allright. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. I just contacted Autogeek and I am pulling my post offline until I get approval.

I have allso reached out to them to carry a few of our products so we shall see.

Eric

this may have been mentioned but i didnt read the whole thread. we install paint protection at my shop and it is recommended to stay away from any wax containing petroleum distillates (MOST waxes have this). what this is im not sure but over time it will yellow the product. plexus was the manufacturer recommended for many years but recently this changed. the link below is what we sell our customers. only use it on the protected are and it will last a long time.

I had a Clear Bra on the front of my GTI. You can use wax or paint sealant on it. Just make sure where your waxing to stay away from where the clear bra end and the paint starts because it will be stuck in there and it is a paint in the butt to get out.

I just recently bought a car that has clear bra on the entire front end. While it's nice to protect against stone chips and such, it's already a bit dulled and micro-scratched in some areas. I'm looking for a method of restoring the clear bra to its original shape.

The other option I was considering is just to peel most of it off.

Any advice on restoration or removal?

Ideally I'd like to save it, but I want the car to look good :xyxthumbs:

by the way your describing it it sounds like the venture brand. the ext. of it dulls and scratches pretty easily once this happens its pretty much seen its life. if you have any warranty paperwork you can try to contact the manufacturer.

unfortunately the car didn't have the docs with it at the dealer. Can that stuff just peel off? Or is there a special removal process?
