Carpet/Upholstery Method

While I am saving up to get a steamer, I had a question on carpet and upholstery cleaning. I am wondering if this step-by-step process would work on most interiors:

Vaccuum (5HP Shop Vac)
Spray with Meguiar's Interior Cleaner
Scrub with Mother's Brush
Spray with Folex
Extract Folex with Bissell ProHeat

I have tried spraying hot water and extracting with the machine itself at the same time, but it just makes a huge watery mess. I was thinking about using the Folex as a liquid product to be extracted with the Bissel, but I feel like I would be losing out on the benefits of hot water loosening dirt and grime. Thoughts on this process?

Your plan of attack looks perfect, though to add the hot water effect to the equation just soak your brush in very warm water shake almost all the water out the bristles then scrub you can also add one or two spirts of hot water to the brush itself then scub too and one other thing ill add is once carpet is extracted, vacuum it once more just to hopefully dry it a bit more

Thoughts on skipping the Meguiar's Upholstery cleaner all together and going straight to the Folex or Meguiar's APC? I have a 5 gallon jug of Meguiar's APC on the way.

Straight to Folex. In my experience with upholstery and carpet mats the surfactants in APCs cause re-soiling to happen more quickly. Plus Folex is so cheap, it's nice to save other products for other uses.

This is exactly what I did for these.




Vacuum, Folex, scrub, towel, vacuum.

You skipped a very important step

You should vigorously dry brush the carpet and vacuum to remove as much as possible before getting anything wet

I do a quick vacuum, then dry brush with a Cyclo brush on my PC, then vacuum again, before spraying Folex, agitating again with the Cyclo Brush, cotton towel, final vacuum
