I am getting a new truck this weekend and I am thinking about coating it. I know your not supposed to run it through an automatic car wash, but how would you suggest getting the road salt off the underbody / frame in the winter months? ( I live In Minnesota)

Frequent rinseless washes at home. And on those days where it's not super cold, spray it with a power washer to remove any built up stuff underneath.

I run my coated cars though a touchless automatic wash all the time in the winter and they do fine. It's the automatic washes with the spinning brushes and those strange strips of fabric loaded with grit that should be avoided.

A touchless wash won't get the vehicle completely clean, but in the depths of winter I honestly don't care. My priority at that point is getting the majority of the salt and grime off the car. I love the underbody spray's for the very reason you mention.

Go with and underbody spray that isn't permanent, such as fluid film. It's basically motorcycle chain grease in a can that can be sprayed. My minivan requires about four cans, and I do it at least once a year. I live in Cleveland, where the salt is heavy in the winter, and I have minimal rust underneath the vehicle.

The waxes that the automatic car washes use may clog up the coating, but getting the salt and crud off is more important. In the spring just decon the coating and wash with Reset and it should be fine.
