any body have a good way to keep cats off of theyre nicely detailed vehicles? my neighbors have quite a few and i would like to keep them from damaging my paint further. a buddy i work with has told me that a more realistic rubber snake placed on my car will scare them of. any body ever try that?

Man I hope I don't get flamed for this, but...paintball gun.

Set live traps and take those suckers to the pound or bb gun.

Yeah that will look nice when he hits his paint...it looks like mini egg hits...not good.

Cats play with snakes so not so sure on that....might try putting caned cat food on the neighbors cars to keep them home. :poke:

Buy a car cover to protect your paint.

sunshine,
i've had the same problem. I did put the snakes on my car but the damn cat jumpped up on the car and you could see where the sucker scratched the heck out of the paint trying to get off. (guess it scared the crap out of him
I found if you lay them on the ground beside the car that will keep them off. I have a total of (6) around mine and hadn't had a problem in over a year now

That Darn Cat! I had this issue once before. It is frustrating to say the least. I would be very careful about using a BB gun or a Paintball gun. If you miss, the damage to your car could be worse than the offense you are trying to ward off. Also, Of late there are numerous case's of animal cruelty laws being tightened for issues such as these.
Be careful not to land yourself in jail. If you can get a picture of the offending animal on your car and take the issue up with your neighbor and try to resolve it at that level. If the neighbour doe's not respond,
contact your animal control officers with the picture in hand to prove 'who the offending critter is and have them handle the issue. I have tried many things ot keep cats off my truck. If you scare them they will most likely scratch your car in the getaway attempt. I have buffed and many of the cat scratch fever blemishes off of cars. Good luck with that Darned Cat.

Any chance you can talk to the neighbors about letting their cats roam around... if not call animal control. If none of those work, Car Cover!

You know that most cities have loose leash laws for dogs that
do not ply to cats. Go figure. I think it is the issue of the family cat not attacking the mailman or the kids is why these laws do not affect cats. I think they should include cats. I never had a dog sitting on my hood when I go out in the morning. lol :pc7424:

Talk to neighbor, If that fails, Live trap.
Not sure what Texas' rules are on the situation, but here in Georgia, if someone's pet is on your property, you can legally capture it.

If someone's dog is on your property and threatens you, you can legally shoot it (if you are not in city limits of course). But that's a whole 'nother situation.

The paintball technique would only be used when the cats are on the ground in your yard. That might get them to stay away from your house.

Good thing is, you have options.
1. Take a picture of the cat on the car and the scrateches it made, if any. Then explain to your neighbor that it is unacceptable and they would have to pay to fix the damaged panels.

2. Buy a car cover.

3. Get a dog.

4. Paintball Gun.

5. Set a live trap. Call animal control.

6. Snakes around car.

I tried talking to my neighbors about their cat that kept jumping on my car and they did nothing. So I blasted the little guy with a garden hose and he hasn't been back since.

I have a vested interest in all three issues. I'm a cat lover, my wife and I have 6. 4 that stay outside as barn cats, and 2 that live in the house with us. How I handle them is like this. Squirt them with water whenever you see them on the car. It's how you train them to stay off counters, etc, works great.

As a paintball player, if I ever see someone misuse a paintball MARKER (gun attracts the redneck idiots!), I rip them a new one. The laws are already iffy on them, and most people look at us as a wanna be militia member, so do the right thing, do not use it for shooting at a animal, or in fact do not use it unless testing at a paper/plastic/wood target, and only on the field.

And then as a car guy if I do catch the cats on the car, they get the water treatment as well as a smack on the butt (like a dog or a kid)! They learn quickly when it happens. And when I park my car to go on tour, it goes in the garage with a car cover on it.

Don't use a BB or a paintball gun on any animal (unless it's a real gun and you're really going hunting!)

I'd just start foaming up the car, if you squirt them with the foam gun or even just the garden hose, they'll never wanna get on your car again!

Might take a couple of attempts but cats HATE water and will be scared off.

Or, you could buy a dog and chain it up next to your car.... ha ha ha.......no more cats xD

I read about a guy who tried spraying water and the dumb cats never learned. He bought a trap meant for catching racoons and baited it with cat food. Three mornings in a row he caught a cat and took it to the pound on the way to work.

Iv'e tried almost everything i finally given up if i cover my car they lay on that and when the wife comes home they have to jump up on her car.I think it has too do with the warm engine. Both car's are kept in the garage and my cats are indoor cats we have three bangals. Here are a couple of pictures. And by the way the only cat i give permission too lay on my car is in the third pictureIm the MANIm the MANIm the MAN

LOL!!!! If you live across the street from me, my little cat Mia will tear a hole in your car trying to get to that snake or for that matter any kind of animal you put up there. You could probably put a cougar up there and she would try to take that one on. She's always dragging giant snakes home! Kicks both of my dogs a**es! Maybe Petco has something that you can spray on the grass near it. I keep mine in the garage. When washing I keep a close eye out for that demon cat! You need a moat dug around you car with a drawbridge!
Im the MAN
