Cell phones and sealants

We all have cell phones and iPhones and after a while the screens get smudged with finger prints and are hard to keep clean. Someone told me that rain-x works well when applied to cell phones with Gorilla glass and helps keep finger prints and smudges off the phone.

That got me wondering if some of these high quality sealants could be used in the same way. I know a lot of people use them on car windshields. Has anyone tried this? I searched the forum and couldn't find anything.

I used optimum glass sealant on my iPhone. Seems to work well.

I've been wondering the EXACT same thing!! The smudges on my iPhone and iPad annoy me so much, and the silky microfibers that come with cases and screen protectors do such a crappy job, that I started carrying a small microfiber from AutoZone with me. It does a GREAT job of cleaning off the screen, but the second I touch it...

I'd carry a microfiber that AG sells, but they don't make any that small (about 8" x 6").

Maybe I should do a test area on the kids' iPad?? I just got some CarPro CQuartz glass coating yesterday. I could compare that with my Griot's Glass Sealant and Rain-X...

Whenever I apply a wax/sealant to my car, I always use whatever is left on the applicator on my phone, so its well coated!

Good idea. So Do the coatings prevent any further smudging or just ease their removal?

Wow. You guys are nuts it's great. My preference for any lcd screen is Pixel Clean. It's the best LCD cleaner around. Never streaks and discharges any static so your LCD stays dust free for a really long time. I have to do my all my phones, computer screens and tv's once every 3 months. Just my 2 cents but I love the idea of waxing a phone.

I just threw caution to the wind and applied WGDG3 to my HTC and the screen feels great. Reminds me of a new phone. No fingerprints at all and buttery smooth.

I'm curious how long it will last.

I use clear bra. If it gets prints on it just rub them off on your shirt and they are gone. Have it on the front and back, makes the phone not so slippery and less likely to drop it. If it gets scratched up just tear off the film and apply new stuff.

Films/skins are the best way to prevent fingerprints and smudges, but the thing is, I don't want to put anything on my device that's visible. Yes, I know, protection, etc... I prefer my phone naked. After all, what's the point in having a sexy looking phone such as the iPhone 5 if you have to cover it up?

Not sure what you mean. Clear bra when you put it on correctly you don't see it that much. It adds gloss, you can wax it, and it prevents scratches and scuffs. I have the HTC 1 and you have to look hard to see it. You like your phone naked and that is cool but phones are pricey and I prefer protection and good looks. :)

Correct, put on properly they are mostly invisible, but they change the feel of the phone, and they tend to get dirt around the edges or start to peel eventually. Plus, i know its there. Don't get me wrong, I'm in no way attacking the use of clear bra or skins in general, nor am I disagreeing with you. You're absolutely right that phones are expensive and skins provide protection. I guess I'm just a risky kinda guy... LOL

I'm definitely not a fan of any type of skin or screen shields on my phones. I also prefer my phone naked. Keeps them sleek and pocketable. I do have a ballistic shock case for when I'm taking my phone out in the bush but it comes off when get back to civilization.

Because I have my phone on me all the time I do have the Otter box on my iPhone, it is a bit bulky but I tend to drop my phone a lot.

My 13 year old son's iPhone 5 has an OtterBox Defender on it. They're definitely bulky, but they're great cases. He's dropped it a few times, so the case has turned out to be a very good purchase!

I have the Lifeproof Case for iPhone 4
