Recently getting back into detailing... noticed these hex pads on eBay from China that are very inexpensive. What are the big differences in these and the current ones sold on this site, other than the $$$.

You get what you pay for. They're extremely low quality. The density and construction between pad colors is almost impossible to distinguish, they delaminate very easily, and are so thin that the product soaks through the entire pad very easily(and results in faster heat build up IME) I have a set of them that I bought in order to be able to speak to the poor quality without just guessing. The hand applicator pads and clay towels share these same traits.

Support the companies with great customer service, knowledge bases, and forums.

I have them and as said before I cant tell the cut to the polish pad besides color, as soon as u use it its instantly flat. after a wash they are basically trash. I ended up cutting them all up to use on my 2 inch, use them once and toss.

What kind of answers did you get when you posted this same question on the Chinese inexpensive hex pad detailing discussion forum or the eBay detailing discussion forum?

The China pads are ok and pretty durable but I've turned to running thin pads so chinas are out

Some guys on the FB groups swear by it and claim is the same as what we use under name brand...
Another guy did a test (name slipped my mind) but he did side by side...Clearly he China pads use crappy abraisives..As cut difference is dramatic.

I've saved pics I'll dig it up, may have his name too

FREDDIE CRUZ was the guy that performed the test..I'll upload pics in a few

buy quality pads that you know that will deliver good results and not to mention you can use over and over...

The old addage of you get what you pay for is true in this case. Buy cheap, get cheap! When you mix Chinese & Cheap you get Cheapinese! And crap for products. But to satisfy your curiosity, buy them, try them, tell us how bad they are so we can say Told Ya!

Low quality.

The backings shrink, or come completely off.

I use them on industrial vehicles, such as bucket trucks, and earth moving equipment. I'm not sacrificing my good Lake Country, Buff and Shine, Rupes, and Meguiar's pads on those vehicles.

I use cheap pads (most or all of the foam sold today is made in China, right?) for applying paste (not liquid) wax. Applying paste wax (not polish) is a simple operation with the objective to apply it thoroughly, even and thin. Paste wax seems to clog pads and I don't really like clogging my expensive pads. Am I missing something with respect to paste wax?

BTW, I can't find any information as to the country of origin of Lake Country foam (not the assembled pads). I'm assuming all or part of the raw materials are sourced from China or Southeast Asia and not made in the US.

Lake Country and B & S are made in the USA in their own manifacturing plants, the information is out there if you look for it. AG even recently posted a tour of the LC Mfg plant and their history. Seek and ye shall find. :o:o

Buff & Shine:

Humble beginnings and the entrepreneurial spirit best describe the start of Buff and Shine Manufacturing in 1987. From a small Torrance California warehouse, the groundwork for establishing a business identity was started by the company owner.

As with any new venture, it wasn't easy, especially in this competitive industry. Over time however, good manufacturing people were brought in and one by one buffing pads were built, tested and marketed in the local region. Eventually, the buffing pad range grew in diversity and selection, with this growth came the recognition we were making products customers appreciated for their quality and consistency. Having this reputation allowed us to grow nationwide, even worldwide.

We are constantly innovating and improving our manufacturing processes, this reflects our ability to ship promptly and deliver products that are competitively priced.

Lastly, we believe in talking to you, we make every effort to address your questions in real time and promptly.

The same low quality and inaccurate labeling also applies to Chinese microfiber towels.
