2 Questions concerning Chrome Bumpers.

#1
Just wondering what everyone uses to shine/polish their chrome bumpers. I have Adams metal polish#2 and as with all polish's you rub until the polish turns black. Well it does not turn black because the bumper is clean but just not real shiny. So I'm wondering am I wasting my metal polish and I can use something cheaper and easier?

#2
Last month I polished the chrome bumper using one of those balls on my drill. Well when the light hits it there are fine swirls all over the bumper. Is there a way to get these out? Maybe put a black pad on my DA with a fine cut polish or my metal polish?
The ball was a ebay special which is no longer in my possession.

there are different types of "metal" polishes. for chrome, you want an actual chrome polish, not a metal polish. 2 different things. metal polish has a bit of grit to it and it WILL damage a lot of types of chrome. I have always had good luck with the over-the-counter Mothers Chrome Polish for chrome bumpers. easy on, easy off, and cheap. and chrome WILL NOT turn black because it does not oxidize the way other metal, like aluminum, does.

•"OEM Decorative Chrome":
-Your vehicle's bumper was polished to be as bright and shiny as it ever will be...when it came from the OEM's chrome-plating vendor.
-Decorative Chrome plating is very, very, very, thin!!!

IMHO:
-The types of abrasive products, and tools used, has resulted in this bumper needing to be re-chromed...
or replaced.

Yea, it all makes sense the way you guy's explained it and some I should have known but I guess just didn't pick up on.

@ Funx725, not bad enough to need replacement or to be re-chromed.

thanks for the reply's.

For plastic chrome, I find that using a good AIO works best it cleans and leaves some protection behind, it's what I do with my MIL's Ford Edge on the grill and the wheels.

Post a picture, please

Close-up, sun shot if at all possible

I had great luck with the Meguiar's M105/205 combo with the DA or by hand on the aluminum trim on my Yukon. It's pretty good stuff. do a test section obviously.

two pics that show the swirls.

Thumbnail photos should burn in Hell

Can't open them quickly on my phone (Lumia 1020/Windows 8.1)

Can't zoom in enough to see anything!

Please use the AGO upload function
