I have a 2012 Ford F150 and it has a chrome grill. I am wondering if the chrome grill needs to be treated differently in the detailing process. Do you need other products to clean it with? Can you polish and wax as you do the rest of the vehicle? Any tips for caring for the chrome on my truck will be greatly appreciated.

Is it a true chrome or the plastic chrome. I have a 2012 F150 Lariat edition and it has a plastic looking chrome. Interested in this thread.

Real chrome you cant really polish since it is a plating. You can remove oxidation and clean it up though. Your grill is most like plastic where you could wash it with soap and use a mild polish to make it look like new again.

What kind of polish do you recommend? I have tried many plastic polish on plastic chrome and it always leaves some fine micro scratches.Feed back please

I wish they used real chrome still. My new Ford Edge Plastic/Chrome grill gets chipped just by looking at it!!!! Been thinking about having it covered with that clear bra stuff. Back on topic, I just seal mine with whatever I'm using on the rest of the vehicle. Just switched from Zaino Z-2 to Duragloss 105.

It most likely is a plastic chrome.

I have a 2012 Sierra and I use never dull, then buff it out with a mf towel. Doesn't scratch and it makes it a mirror finish.

The major automakers have to always reduce cost on their vehicles some way. You see more plastic everywhere. I would actually start out by using something like a paint cleaner or cleaner wax

Does the Sierra have the plastic chrome like my Ford does?

I use a sealant on my chrome and plasti-chrome parts to protect.

click it with your finger nail, or look from behind, youll be able to tell

I have that plastic chrome on my Lincoln grille and wheels. They are protected with CQ. Any nano coating (CQ,OC, Element 119, g tech) will give you the best port
Ection you can get. Polish with M205 first by hand with a soft mf.

It does. The grill is all plastic chrome. Thought I'd give it a try and have been pleased with it since I've started. Its low cost as well. $6-$8.

pretty sure it's plastic . my advice is take care of it . factory plastic chrome is lot more durable than aftermarket stuff. I got my truck used and had to replace the grille . all I did was upkeep with mothers chrome polish and wax.this was before I was an ag. the replacement grille didn't make it through the winter here in Wisconsin . pitted and looked like crap . got another grille and opticoated it .

I have some Meguiars Ultimate polish and ultimate wax. Would these two be ok to use on the plastic chrome grill?
