hi,

I have some chrome wheels on my truck that are in horrible condition. i use my truck to pull my RV and it is not daily driven, so the rotors usually have time to rust a little bit between use. So when i drive it i get horrible brake dust and for some reason metal shavings.

im gonna trie to show pics....

its hard to see in the pictures, but there is some stuck metal shavings on there with heavily caked brake dust around it. i tried removing this with some mothers chrome polish on a power cone and a microfibre by hand. it does absolutely nothing.
I also tried to let it soak a bit with some rim cleaner from autoglym with no luck.

is this damage permanent or is there anyways to remove this with out causing more damage??
most people at the rv park dont see this, but this is driving me nuts.

plz help!!

The images didn't show.

Try a wheel cleaner formulated specifically for chrome rims - that mean nasty acid can do some terrific work on metal dust.

Of course, that assumes the rims are chrome plated, and not clad or polished aluminum - the pix would really help.

Still going on the assumption that your wheels are in fact chrome here are two reviews that I did using Mothers Chrome Wheel Cleaner and Chrome Polish. These wheels didn't have caked on brake dust as you describe but the wheel cleaner was only sprayed on for the directed amount of time and just rinsed off. I'm sure with agitation it will clean caked on brake dust. You may have to clean them more than one time to get it all off.

Sorry for double post,
thanks ray for helping with the pics.

thanks forest and rzatch for the reply.

could a strong acid cleaner for chrome wheel dmg the cheap plastic center cap in the middle of the wheel ?

Anything is possible, and as soon as I say no it would. It didn't on the wheels I cleaned. You could always error on the side of safety and take them off and just do those by hand.
