My wheels are 12 years old and starting to show light pitting. Can anyone recommend anything? I thought about using an iron remover and a drill wheel brush.

I would recommend CLR with some 0000 steel wool. I got excellent results on a Harley Road King with that. Then follow up with a metal polish of your choice.

Pitting results from corrosion beneath
the chrome plating.

Pitting is not like dirt or grime and can’t be
cleaned/polished “off”. It is actual damage
to the chrome plating: damage that can’t be
removed—perhaps filled-in somewhat.

•Here are a couple of products that have
filling-in/rust-retardant characteristics:
-Turtle Wax Chrome Polish and Rust Remover
-Collinite Metal Wax No. 850

BTW:
12 years is one hellofa good run for
decorative chrome...Congratulations!

Somewhere on this forum I have some meaty info on chrome. If I have time I try to find it.

Here's my advice, once you get these chrome wheels cleaned up - KEEP THEM CLEAN and SEALED

Pitting takes place when moisture and dirt remain on other surface for a long time. The dirt film hold the moisture onto the chrome surface and it gets into and past the chrome to the steel and that's why rust forms. Then it's game over unless you keep the clean and dry and sealed.

Meguiar's used to recommend their M16 Paste Wax on all types of chrome to SEAL the surface and prevent water/moisture from corroding wheel.

Im going to try Collinite. I will update my results. Should I apply by hand or drill brush?

Good choice.
Applying it by hand fits me best.

Try applying it, using both methods,
to see what fits you best.
