Hey guys, was watching some of Renny Doyles videos today and a thought struck me. What would everyone think about a dedicated class at AG strictly related to starting and running a detail business. We have Machine Polishing 101 so how about Detail Business 101? There is a huge knowledge base not only at AG but with forum members as well. The class would not be about how to detail but how to run the business side. Lets face it, Papa Max has great experience starting and running a successful business. I can remember when he had a few little stores in the mall and bam...look at him now.

So, just a thought. My business classes in college were long ago and frankly, a blur. College in general was a blur but that is a different story.

I know it would be a chore for AG to put something on but I for one would be willing to make the investment for 2 or 3 day class.

Or you could join the social group here called "Let's Help Each Other Succeed" ! Go through the pages of threads and read through man - good stuff in there. There are a few threads that are more for fun, but alot of them have good info in them about business from successful detailing business owners to those just starting up. We share good marketing tips, ideas, etc. from the business side detailing. You should check it out man! Don't think we have a doctor in there yet lol?!?!?!:dblthumb2:

I have read all the business threads and learned much. Sometimes it is like drinking from a firehouse. I thought a sit down, structured class may be cool. I learn better that way but that's just me. I will continue to peruse the business threads as usual.

Just joined the group and didnt know it was there. Great tip Anthony, thanks!!

True about a classroom setting.... I learn everything better the hard way unfortunately - then others see me fall and learn from that lol! Nice profile pic on final by the way!

There is something about getting a plastic binder at a class...I feel like I am officially learning. But I too am a hands on type when it comes to the physical labor...on the job training with money has never worked out well!

Crosswinds were biblical that day on final!

My tummy just turned thinking about crosswinds on final..... weak stomach in the small singles, sure couldn't handle heavy crosswinds for sure!

Ahhh, that's what puts the fun in flying! Otherwise, it's like driving a car. When I get up your way one day we can do some airplane crabbing...and I dont mean the shellfish.

Not sure what that is - but sounds fun as long as it is in a Citation X, Challenger, Falcon 2000 ..... you know along that size lol! :dblthumb2:

Falcon...euro trash! None of the above in my lifetime. Crabbing is essentially flying sideways down to the runway and kicking it straight with the rudder just before touchdown. You would pee yourself.

Falcon 900 is my favorite man for sure lol! So you think I would do number 1 on myself?!!?!? I would probably do a number 5 on myself in all actuality!

Bill - click on user cp, then social groups. and you should see it there.

Porsche - I do like the idea of a class on how to run a business. I have learned a ton just from the forums, however there is so much info and a lot of opinions etc, that you have to take into account when your reading. So, having a formal class would definitely be nice.

But since there isn't one right now I'm going to be learning the hard way!

I think maybe for the people going to detail fest, should get together after it done and go to a diner and just pass ideas around. Bring a notebook and pen and then you guys can share any secret and tips about running a successful business. At diner you can stay for hours and if they kick you out just find a Dunken Donuts.:xyxthumbs:

If you guys decide to do this can someone make a copy of the stuff and send it to me?:props:

I'll definitely be hitting people up for advice while I'm there. I've already learn a ton just from the forum but it's always nice to talk to people face to face.

Hate to say it, but I question if a one day seminar would be all that worthwhile since there are SO many different aspects of running a business to cover (I'm currently working on a bachelor's in business administration, and I own/operate a detailing business.... believe me I know how many different things are involved!)

From AG's perspective, I think the most feasible "class" they could do is something like "how to outfit a detail shop" and offer guidance on what basic products and equipment every shop should have on hand at all times for full beginning to end details -- whether they be production work or specialty/show car work.

That, or they could even do a class on "how to provide up-sell services" that covers paint touch-ups, carpet and trim dye services, etc.

Past that when it comes to general business knowledge, I hate to say it but that's what Community College is for.
