Clay Bar and there aggressiveness

Well about a month ago i got the pinnacle ultra poly clay on BOGO. well the only clay bar ive used for my mobile biz is from another company not sold at autogeek and dont want to get introuble for saying where i get it but its a med aggressive clay and never had any prob with it but how could i pass on BOGO. i noticed that even tho it did take out some of the contaminant on the paint but once i felt the paint there was still some left so i came back with the other stuff ive been using and sure enough it took the rest out. is the poly clay from pinnacle not that aggressive and have i been claying wrong all this time where i need to start with a heavy aggressive and work my way to a less aggressive clay before i polish and wax.

Pinnacles Ultra Clay is considered a light clay. Most clays like Mothers, DP, and Wolfgang are considered medium or normal abrasive clay. Megs does offer a burgundy version as an abrasive clay. Hopefully that helps !

Having used the Pinnale and the Mothers (yellow gold) I think the Mothers is "light" (and it didn't hold up very well - I gave a new bar away). My "go to" clay is the blue Clay Magic bar. For light clean up I liked the Pinnacle.

I haven't used the Pinnacle clay, but I have used the Mothers and Clay Magic blue. I echo your sentiments, I'm not particularly a fan of the Mother's clay because it's tough to work with (falls apart when kneaded) but I keep a ton of the CM in stock.

The XMT clay I have is also fairly difficult to work with. Often, it breaks apart when kneaded, and it tends to spread itself out flat during the claying motions. It does clean paint very well, though. Once I'm finished using this clay, I'm looking into a different medium grade clay that is easy to work with, like how Pinnacle Ultra Poly is.

Pinnacle Ultra Poly clay is an Ultra Fine clay, the finest coarseness of clay available, and was designed for almost daily use. It will not remove very heavy contamination well, for that reason. It was not designed to. Most clay is medium to fine grade, which is used for most situations, and should remove about any degree of contamination that you encounter. Meguiar's makes a Heavy Duty clay, that is harsh enough to remove some oxidation at the same time that it removes embedded contaminants, for extremely neglected cars. Griot's Garage, Clay Magic, Wolfgang, DP, Riccardo, are all medium to fine grade clays, and in general, if a clay doesn't say what grade it is, it is almost certainly a medium to fine grade clay.

If the pinnacle clay is for daily drivers will it remove or degrade anything like the WGDGP or a last step product? For the more experienced people on this thread is it common to have two types of clay, 1) light for frequent use 2) med used prior to detailing?

Pinnacle Ultra Poly clay is designed to not strip LSP. I would think that if you use it frequently however, it would thin it faster which might necessitate reapplying more frequently, though. If the Ultra Poly clay will take care of whatever contamination you have, there is no need to go harsher. The gentlest clay causes the least marring, which I think is the reason why Ultra Poly clay was designed.
The med to fine clay that is most common is the one you use if you clay every 6 months, or will be reapplying LSP.

Griot's Garage clay is a medium to fine grade clay that works for most of your claying needs. It is not absolutely necessary to follow with a polish after using it, unless you demand the highest shine. Marring is minimal with it. I've been using it for over 15 years now as my go to clay. Unfortunately, it gets really sticky and gooey on your fingers after you use it for awhile, in the heat. It is safe and effective, unlike the Mother's clay I got before it, in the 90's. That stuff marred single stage black badly, as in horribly, so that I practically had to compound it afterwards, and didn't seem to work as well as the Griot's. In fairness, I was using it to remove overspray of house paint, but still.

Thanks. I got two useful answers because I have mother's as my other clay. S it'll be Mother's prior to polishing, and Griot's before chemical cleaning.
