Clay bar caught edges of PPF and now I have some clay bar “threads” visible on these edges. What can be used to remove the clay bar that is trapped under these seams?

thanks in advance

Sorry to hear of the mishap. Clear bras are great but they are a PAIN to work around.

I've found that some spray waxes will gently dissolve most clays. Well at least I found Meguiar's Spray Wax would dissolve their clay but I'm sure this will work.

You might also try an orange oil type product like Goo Gone or Goof Off.

Most clay is polybutene plastic. Maybe one of our online chemist can share what will dissolve polybutene without screwing up the PPF or the paint.

Maybe try some simple remedies like Mineral Spirits or Paint Thinner?

:)

Thanks, I was thinking acetone would be a good chemical to start with but wanted to ask if there was a surefire antidote to clay. Fortunately, the spotting is pretty minimal but it is Meguiar’s yellow clay and the car is a blue Ferrari, so it really pops. I should have stopped immediately when it happened and switched to a blue clay instead of just trying to be careful with it. I’ll try the spray wax first. Thanks again.

Are you talking about a little clay residue right at the edge of the PPF? Kind of similar to a wax or polish build-up at the edge?

If that's the case I like to remove the bulk of it by mechanical means using the point of a wooden or plastic toothpick.

I'd be very careful with acetone. It's a very aggressive solvent and will damage many surfaces. Mineral spirits, like Mike mentioned, is my go-to general purpose solvent... It's safe and effective for a multitude of uses.

I use a toothpick also. I'll have to give an orange oil type product (Stoner's Xenit, Citrol 266) a try afterwards next time if that's able to break the clay down.
