Hi Mike,
At what point should i throw out the clay?
I understand we fold the clay to get a clean surface.
I have to assume once the clay bar gets dirty looking. its time to start with a new piece .

I have seen people keep their clay for years and it looks like a light grey color from the contminants.
Thanks for your imput!

do the eyeball test. after folding enough times, the clay will look too contaminated to keep using it. if you drop on the street or driveway i wouldnt use it all anymore.

After a while it'll start feeling gritty and breaking apart in small bits. It sort of looses it's elasticity. Time to trash it.

If you kneed it and don't get a nice clean spot time to throw away...... I typically use a clay bar piece (depending on conditions) for about 3-4 cars/trucks. They when its to dirty for paint I use it for rims exhaust pipes etc.

I cut all my bars into smaller, more workable pieces. This way if I drop it I'm not out a whole bar.

Usually one of these smaller pieces will get me either one large or heavily contaminated vehicle or two smaller/less contaminated vehicles. Then it gets demoted to wheels and glass.

When they get too dirty or start to loose their effectiveness its time to toss or demote.

I get my bars to last a very long time. Using the right clay lube is key also .
