hello all,

I had a friend who dropped off her car for three weeks. (o4 BMW 330i) very nice car I must say. (i just had to drive it) :D

Now as she was leaving the house for vacation she said "oh and go ahead and detail it" in a joking way. well I took it seriously.

black car lots and lots of swirls. rims in good shape (no rash) but there is a lot of caked on brake dust. which leads me to my question:

is claying the rims ok? or is there a better way to do things.
Feed back please

P.S. I am extremely excited to do this car. (honestly, I havent been able to sleep) it will be my test to see how far along I am coming as far as talent goes. plus I want to see the look on her face when the car looks brand new. look for the show and shine come sat night/sunday morning!!!!!

thanks in advance

Claying rims is a good thing. Just be ready to throw away the clay you use. I usually tear off a piece of an old clay bar.

You can clay the rims. I use old clay when i do. However, have you tried just using wheel cleaners like PS21 or simple green with a little bit of brushing? I think claying the rims, especially if they have a lot of crevices would be time consuming.

Consider tossing the clay bar after claying those rims. So, use the older clay bar, you previously used on paint.

Are the wheels painted, chrome, polished aluminum?
Clay will be good, but it can also be overmarched by caked brake dust/pits, and it may require to be chemically removed. just my experience in the past...

I just cleaned the wheels on an 02 Viper I recently purchased. They had a lot of baked on brake dust on the inside of the wheels but P21s Wheel Cleaner took it all off after 2 applications. The wheels came out looking like new.

Nice job Gary!

use old clay, it's great for claying wheels, it smoothens them out well.

I would get most eveything off that you can chemically, and as mentioned old clay or small pieces, I just did M wheels on a 04 330 6 spd today that some one vandalized with flat black spray paint, fun it was not
