Welcome everyone to my review of the Cleanfreak 3 Gallon spot carpet extractor. I had bought this for a few reasons:
1. Water capacity
2. Amount of lift
3. Portability
4. Price

When I was looking for a carpet extractor I knew that I wanted something that was going to be easy to use, very portable, and has good lift. After months of researching, looking all over the web, and comparing different models in the spot cleaning department I finally settled on the one I'm about to review.

Upon the beginning of my search I looked at numerous spot cleaning units and one thing I noticed is that 1.5 gallons it the usual capacity for these machines. There are some 2 gallon units out there as well. Next is that if you want a heated unit then get ready to pay up. The price difference between heated an non-heated is about $300 or more for a heated unit in the spot cleaning machines. Now, my budget did not allow for a heated unit so I stuck with non heated. I was stating to lean toward the Mytee Tempo but if you compare that to the one I have you will see this:

(Cleanfreak unit stats on the left Mytee Tempo stats on the right)

Recovery Tank: 3 gallon / 1.5 gallon
Solution Tank: 3 gallon / 1.5 gallon
Psi 55psi / 55psi
Water lift: 105" / 85"
Air Movement 140 CFM / 97 CFM
Hose: 7' x 1.25" / 8'
Attachment: Clean heart duty plastic / Stainless Steel

Warranty Cleanfreak Unit: Lifetime warranty on the roto-molded tanks and 5 years on the motors and parts

Warranty Mytee Unit: 3 year warranty on the housing, 1 year on motors/vacs, and 90 days on parts

Price: $349.00 / $364.00

So after my hunt I picked up the Cleanfreak unit. Now on to the review.

I pulled the front carpets out of my sister 08 Dodge Avenger and here they are before cleaning:

After vacuuming and brushing clean:

Once the were clean and brushed time to get working. I sprayed down the carpets with Meguiars APC+ 10:1 ratio. I then agitated the carpets with a stiff carpet brush:

Now for the carpet extractor. I used hot water instead of cold water and made 4 passes in total. I did not add any solution into the spray tank so there was only hot water coming from the spray nozzle And here are the after pictures:

There carpets were nearly dry to the touch after cleaning with the unit.

Thirsty?

This has been my favor purchase to date and I'm very happy with the cleaning abilities of the extractor. I can definitely take my interior game to a new level with this unit!:xyxthumbs:

Very nice job. Extractors really step up your carpet cleaning game!

I found the model you were talking about. Excellent deal I would say! You say your budget doesn't allow for the heated model so you used hot water. How long would you say the water stayed hot during your test?

The tank keeps the warm very hot. After I was done and I emptied the extra water is was still steaming.

OK just an update. I was finally able to do an interior today with this so without any further a due :

Afters:

This was one happy customer (me).

I have the heated version. In less than a year it has been in the shop twice. Once for a bad heater and once for a leaking plunger valve in the extractor tool. Both times Clean Freak cover the cost of the repair and a local repair shop was able to quickly do the repair.

I does a really nice job when it is working. I only use it a few times a week. It seems as if a $600 commercial extractor should not have needed 2 repairs already with such minim use. I wonder how many years this thing will last.

...and if there's no one local to work on these units, you can add shipping costs on top of that, not to mention the inconvenience of breaking down in the middle of a job.

Don't feel bad. I have a Mytee lite 2 and have had it in the shop once replaced 2 pumps myself and have had to fix like 3 other random things myself also. Never again. I keep it for really bad vehicles but mostly just use steam now.

If you are going to be doing carpets on a regular basis you will be throwing your money away trying out non-commercial units. I understand they are expensive, but after you try out 2 or 3 of these units and they fail to hold up, you coulda bought a nice used commercial unit! Here is the one I use daily with no problems. I got it used and had to do a little rewiring and replaced 2 switches. It hasn't broke down yet and I've probably used it 50 or 60 times.

Thermax DV-12 Therminator

Yeah, it's an older model and a bit hard to maneuver but good thing is I don't have to run it around much at all with a 20 foot hose. :)

Well thats not good to hear but things have that chance to break no matter what it is. The warranty is definitely a reason I had bought this unit. I will be interested in seeing how this unit performs and holds up.

Yea been there had a polisher crap pout in the middle of a job with no back up.

Looks like it (and you) did a good job. I'm impressed.

Thanks much appreciated :props:

Steam would be awesome to have that might be in a year or zoo depending on the unit. Most recommend the VX5000.

Thanks for your input but again my budget was for a spot cleaner and I feel it has been a great purchase. Had I been able to have more of a budget up to $800 -$1000 then I would have just bought a VX5000. I have to take it one step at a time :xyxthumbs:

Extraction is the way to do Pro-Detail jobs, With heater much better ofcourse. You can find some external In-line heaters not to expensive And they really make a difference.

Heat, extraction, agitation, dwell time, everything count´s to get a final job done the right way.

in some detail´s were you have a messy car, I do a pass first, with my steamer, then I use the Portable extractor, this help me, remove more the stain´s on the carpet or seat.

or even try at the same time working with the steam and the Detail wand at the same time, it´s a little tricky but works deam fine!!!!!
