Cleaning a microfiber sponge

How do you clean a microfiber sponge? Does it have to be by hand? It seems like the sponge part might not rinse very cleanly. Additionally, my square microfiber applicators never look the same (hold shapevas well) after washing.

I wash them by hand using Dawn Power Eraser. It has worked well for me -- YMMV.

If you are referring to a Cobra MF Bone Sponge type, yes, they do not release the soap well. So what I do is rinse by hand under running water 4-5X until water runs fairly clear. Then lightly spray Pinnacle MF detergent onto most of the Bone Sponge and throw it into the washer (Top Loading HE). I have a quick wash setting (18 mins soak-wash-rinse-spin). Comes out very clean with no dark stains. Air dry or throw it into an HE dryer for 6 mins and done.
