What is the best way to keep heavily soiled rags etc. towels clean after waxing, polishing, cleaning car? I read about vinegar and water, washing machine without detergent? drying them without fabric softener. Thanks

MIcrofiber towels- I would use a detergent similar to Tide Free and Clear.

Use Vinegar on the rinse cycle.

Everything else I use a degreaser like purple power on my pads..

Separate your paint, glass, and general use towels. Hot water presoak in a bucket with a few ounces of APC. I let mine soak overnight but an hour or two will suffice if you have limited MF supply and need to use them again right away. Pre-wash, wash, and extra rinse (hot water) using your choice of MF detergent. White vinegar for rinse cycle. Hang dry or dry on low-medium heat. Inspect and demote paint towels as needed based on contaminants.

I also agree that segregating wash/dry separate is one key to getting maximum results. I recommend the lowest heat setting (above air) on the dryer. I think the vinegar rinse is not needed if you have soft water or not over do it on the amount of soap used and if you use a second rinse.

Depending on your washer, water quality, soap selected, etc. are variables to define your own process. Washing twice is not a crime either to insure they are clean.
