Cleaning interior before exterior?

I am going to do a full detail on my new truck next week and I am trying to figure out what the best way to go about this is. I am thinking of detailing the interior on one day and then doing the exterior the following day.

However, I was thinking...how do you clean the door jambs without getting overspray into the interior? I could clean the door jambs the same day as the interior, but there will be some overspray on the exterior that will leave water spots...

So how do I go about this?

I use ONR for my doorjambs or APC in a spray bottle. No need to "wash" them like the exterior

Typically I just "wipe" the jambs with a microfiber towel dampened with a quick detailer. As long as you maintain the jambs and never let them get too dirty such a wipe is adequate.

If and when I do give them a real wash, I'll turn the rinse hose down to a trickle to minimize the amount of water that gets into the interior.

Most people's cars are very neglected and the door jambs require degreaser to fully clean. I find that it works better to do the exterior first (including the jambs) and then proceed to the interior. Also, if you are going to be polishing it makes sense to prep wash, dry, detail interior, polish, LSP. This way all the water will run down from the mirrors and trim while you are doing the interior and won't bother you while you are polishing.

I am thinking I may just do the exterior first..do the interior on the second day

Honestly, my car is brand new (2 months old) and well maintained. I only started getting into detailing because of it. My wife and I don't use the backseats as well, so they're always down (Honda Fit 2015 seats that fold down), so they don't get hit by the sun as much to lessen the fade, cause they're fabric. The only traction on the inside are the driver and passenger seats.

I vacuumed the entire interior once, but only do the front seats now, since the back sees no shoes for more than a week at a time.

My personal weekly maintenance routine is the following.
  1. Take out floor mats (carpet), brush, and vacuum outside.
  2. Vacuum the inside floors for anything that wasn't on the carpet (corners and stuff included)
  3. Vacuum the cracks in the seats
  4. Wipe down the dash, console, all black trims with Meg's interior cleaner.
  5. Clean the inside windows with Stoners
  6. Put back carpet, and close the doors.

Everything on the interior is done now, and I don't reopen it until I'm done with washing the outside.

  1. Waterless wash the outside
  2. Spray and scrub tires, dry them
  3. Reopen doors and wipe door jams with a somewhat rinseless wash method
  4. Close doors again
  5. Glass cleaner on exterior windows
  6. D156 spray wax the car
  7. Tire coating on tires.

I do the interior first, exterior and door jam will be on the same day :)

I just use a damp rag on the jambs. Doesn't really matter when I do it. Sometimes I do it with the interior. Sometimes I do it with the exterior. Whatever my mood and time allows.

If I do the interior first, I give them a quick wipe down after the exterior to keep from getting water spots.

I prefer to do the interior first. But I treat it like anything else I hate. Do it first.....
