Hi everyone,
I'm pretty new here although I've been lurking for a while. I've always been a regular at MOL and kind of followed Mike over here. Anyways, my question is, I have a nice assortment of the new LC Hydro pads that I just recieved and got the chance to use them today for the first time. I've been following the discussions about pad use, pad failure, etc. and I used about 6 pads each today am ready to clean them now. Are they okay to use in the washing machine or should I clean them with the pad washer and spin them dry?

Thanks everyone!

Tom

Well if you have been reading all the posts then you know that there has been so many questions about these pads.I wouldn't put them in the washing machine .I use the xmt pad cleaner or my dawn power dissolver and a brush wash them out and ring them out and let them air day.I also use my compressor to help blow out any water. The key looks like these pads need to be bone dry when you go and use them again.

Thank you, I washed them with the pad washer 2000 on the rotary, spun them and sat them out to dry.

Was curious about Autogeeks or Lake County stance on how to clean them?

Just to add to what Adam has said, it takes at least two days for them to completely dry. I would also suggest to put them on a sweater drying stand so the air can circulate through the pads, this goes for any pad that needs to be dried also.

Thank you, I only detail on the weekends so that should give them plenty of time to dry.

Hi Tom,

Nice to see you on AG, I thought I saw that you had posted, it's hard to keep up sometimes...

:)

Thank you Mike, I've actually been here for a while looking around, just never posted. Wanting winter to be over here, been having detailing withdraw and did up my gf's car this past weekend with some of my new toys, have several of these pads and just want them to last.

Take care,

Tom

I just got my GTO back from the body shop for a new paintjob and used the purple foamed wool, cyan and orange hydro pads. After each day that I was done with them, I threw mine in the wash machine and then the dryer on low. I have a dedicated washer/dryer so my wife doesnt yell. I re-used them the next day with no problems. I also am testing out new backing plates and tried to destroy the plates and pads with extreme pressure and speed, with no luck.

With a DA or a rotary?

FWIW I finally tried my Hydros on my Flex 3401 this weekend and absolutely love them! The Cyan with Menz Power Gloss cut fast and finished so well I couldn't believe it, the pad was VERY easy to clean, water squeezed right out. The Tangerine with XMT 360 finished beautifully but was harder to get clean, as XMT 360 always seems to be anyway, but water wants to stay in these pads (all cleaning by hand w/ Snappy clean).

I didn't give them any special treatment in use or cleaning, if anything I applied a little extra pressure while polishing and squeezed and agitated a little harder while washing. No probs anywhere. :props::props::props:

Both DA and rotary. I was using mostly 4 inch pads for the rough cut and 6 inch on the final polishing.

Thank you, that's nice to know as I am used to throwing all of my pads together in the washing machine and letting them air dry. I did scuff up the face on one of the Cyan pads in the system 2000 pad washer with the rotary, as the pad was wet and I might have been applying too much pressure. I lightened up the pressure on the remaining pads with no problems.

I used the 5.5" cyan pads on the rotary with 105 around 1100-1200 rpms, then switched to the 5.5" tangerine pads on the rotary with 205 at 1100 rpms, and then used a 6.5" black finishing pad with Ultrafine at 1100 rpms, her black car never looked better! I really like the correction ability of these pads...
