Cleaning Titanium Burnt Exhaust Tips

Hello all,

First post, usually I'm just on the fourms taking in all the knowledge, but I can't seem to find much on my particular issue.

I purchased an exhaust system second hand, and although the previous owner claimed he used it very little and it was maintained, the titanium burnt tips are showing signs of neglect.

I polished these up the best I could by hand with some metal polish, but there is still a lot of scratches. The scratches I can try to live with, but there appears to be some type of burnt on carbon around the edge of the tips. I've tried several polishes that I have (Mothers, Meguiars, Autosol) but cannot seem to make a dent in it at all. I read online that WD-40 may work, but nothing from that either. The build-up is definitely on top of the pipes as you can feel it with your fingernails.

I'm nervous about further damaging the burnt-style tips and as such I've been reluctant to use steel wool on them in fear of removing the finish.

If anyone has encountered this issue and has an idea, please share your input, it's very much appreciated!

I used a small Wheel Woolie on a drill with P21S Rejuv Polish.

Granted, mine were not burnt - but this combo seemed like it would fix all that could be fixed. You have to let the polish do the work, or you will have a broken Wheel Woolie.

Kind of looks like what I had to deal with, on my own car. Perhaps some bumper residue from touching the tip.

Mine was sooo bad! I had to "snap" off pieces of melted bumper. I then polished them up with m205 and Meguiar's microfiber cutting pad on my GG 3".

I too have a "blued" tip. In my case, it was worth trying an abrasive polish.

I would try some carb cleaner to take the carbon off. cotton rag and let it dissolve it. A good carb cleaner should break up the carbon and leave the finnish ready to lightly polish. Jonathan
