I used some XMT 4 on the hood of a car that I did and various other spots on the car. I spot corrected. ON the hood my pad got filled with what looked like black gunk and it is a black car I dont think that just the hood was repainted with single stage and I dont think that I burnt thru the clear as it has an even shine and alot of it. Could this black gunk be just oxidation from years of neglect. It washed out easy. Thanx

It could have been old oxidized paint. And it also could have been a repaint. What make and model was the vehicle.

It is either a 99 or a 00 Jetta the thing is is that it looks the same as the other paint no indication of a repaint. It is shiny and looks as though it is clear coated still how would i tell if it was a single stage repaint. Thanx for the reply

Dull doesn't always mean no clear. Cars can be shiney without clear coats. What was it that you were trying to remove with XMT4? If it was oxidation that could explain why your pad is black. If the area is no longer oxidized and shiny, polish the area lightly with something like XMT 1. If your pad is black again, theres most likely no clear coat..
