What's everyone's favorite coating on plain black? I've only used a coating( gloss coat) on my wife's pearl white car. What works we'll on black?

•What were the end results of the
Coating application on the Wife's car?

•Did you take the necessary steps to
"properly prep" your Wife's car before
applying the Coating?

IMO: "Proper Prep" is the key,
regardless the vehicles' colors.

There's so many great coatings on the market these days. You just want to make sure you properly prep the paint surface before applying the coating. I personally like to use the Pinnacle Black Label Diamond Paint Coating V2 since it's extremely easy to work with. Car Paint, Glass & Trim Coatings, permanent paint coatings, trim coatings, car glass coating

I recently coated this Grand Sport Corvette with the Pinnacle Black Label Diamond Paint Coating V2.

I wish I could say I've tried ALL the different coatings and "XYZ" is my favorite on my black car. I can't but can say I LOVE the McKee's 37 coating I have on it now.

I also agree with Bob in that prep is the key. I also used to think that color didn't matter and with the right prep they all look their best. I've changed my mind a bit on that and have certainly found how different LSP's can impart a difference. Negligable? Maybe but different nonetheless...to my eyes at least.

Would like to see what this question yields, Tmcbigblue.

I'm a McKee's 37 fan. I've used 22PLe before and seen many others and can't say they are worth the big bucks they command in comparison. Prep and proper polish and clarity of the clear coat is key IMO and is what will make people say WOW! more so than the LSP used. McKee's is very cost effective and on a daily driver that is going to need polished at some point, there's no need IMO to spend big bucks on coatings that will eventually be removed. I'm doing a beautiful black car this weekend that was done with Opticoat Pro (not sure of the costs, etc) and after only a couple years it's swirled to the point where it's in my garage waiting to be restored. All that money they paid is about to be removed but when I'm done it will look as good if not better than when they originally had it coated and at a fraction of the price.

I agree with everybody else on prep. No coatings are color specific so what it really comes down to is finishing/jeweling the paint before the coating. This is what will make the paint pop once the coating is applied. Key is to remove all waxes, fillers etc after the paint correction process. I use 3M Inspection Spray to remove everything once done polishing and moving on to the coating process. It's really expensive stuff, but it's the only Spray I've used that removes everything without leaving residue.

I fully agree with prep being really important, but do any of them actually look any different from another if the prep is the same?

With sealants and waxes you see some that provide a deep wet look while others provide a more glassy, candy-coated appearance. I've even noticed this with different spray waxes on a base of 845. Can you say the same thing with coatings?

I'm about to hit my black car with McKee's coating in a couple weeks. I have it on hand, and it looks great on my wife's crimson SUV. Ther is no doubt I'll be happy with the results However, I can't help but wonder if stepped up in cost to say, PBL, if the car would look any different. After my tastes changing over my first couple of years of black car ownership, I'm back to really liking the deep carnauba-ish appearance.

I thought the Polish Angel Cosmic V1 had a specific color choice when ordered (on their website anyway) which would seem to indicate tailored to a single color. Never looked much into it though...

That is correct and I have personally used it along with there non color matched Cosmic.
Also, for pure black I like CQ. It seems to have a slight darkening effect which IMO looks great on non metallic black paint.

I tend to use cquartz uk for dark cars, and glosscoat with lighter, only reason is because of the different application processes. It's easier to do cquartz uk on a darker car and glosscoat o's more forgiving on a colour you can't see high spots as easily.

Polish Angel Viking coat search my black Audi post. Autopia sells it. Great product and easy to use.10 months and counting still holding strong

Yes I was pretty happy with how my wife's pearl white highlander turned out. It was new and i polish with optimum hyper polish and then went over everything with optimum coating prep spray. It was polished pretty much to perfection. I spent a lot of time on the prep and I believe I did as good as a job as possible. Also Clayed the car before I polished. It turned out great and I am happy with it. It's been probably over 15 months and it is still holding up really well. The car sits outside 24-7 so that's why I decided to coat with gloss coat. My car however is a black 2016 Camaro ss and I'm rather picky on how it looks. The paint is pretty damn close to perfect, but I would do a full polish and prep before. I know how important the polish and prep is. I can tell the difference between pretty much all the lsps I have used over the years and I just

I just want to be sure I would like the look. I usually prefer the deep, dark, wet carnuba look on black. A am using HD Speed and poxy now and really like the look, but the added protection of a coating has my interest. Thanks for all the response!

I have two identical colored graphite gray metallic 2015's Sprinters one with Gloss coat the other (Garage Queen)is wearing Wolfgang deep gloss paint sealant. The sealant is deeper looking for sure and the coated paint seems to lack the deepness but cleans very easy and is going on 1 year parked outdoors and still behaves like I applied it yesterday. We notice the difference that others don't longevity or deepness ? pick your poison!

About a month ago I did my brothers Escalade which isn't black but a dark grey with CSL&EXO and thought it did a good job on his dark color.

And did my room mates KIA right after with same combo. Hard to tell how black it really looks because of the reflection of my garage walls which are gloss white with texture.
